Job Description

Located along the beautiful shores of Lake Ontario, conveniently placed along the 401 corridors between Toronto and Ottawa, the Municipality of Brighton is a lower tier municipality in the County of Northumberland with a population of over 12,000 people, increasing steadily due to its beautiful waterfront and small-town appeal.

We are currently accepting applications for a Manager of Parks and Recreation.Reporting to the Director of Parks and Recreation, the Manager is responsible for the daily administration and management of municipal recreational facilities, parks, and green spaces.

Responsibilities of the Role:

  • Responsible for ensuring that disruptions on, or damage to municipal parks’ infrastructure are properly guarded, marked, and signed to prevent injury to the public or staff
  • Provides the Director with long-term planning and vision of municipal parks and recreation spaces, programs, and infrastructure
  • Ensures all machinery, vehicles, and equipment are maintained and repaired and that all service and inspection records are appropriately documented
  • Responds to emergency calls (i.e. power outage, ice/equipment issues) during non-working hours, arranges for call-in of staff and/or contractors as required
  • Manages the daily operations of the department, ensuring assigned work activities, projects, and programming are met
  • Establishes and recommends fees for recreation programs
  • Responsible for the review and approval of facility use contracts
  • Supervises and coordinates the day to day activities of department staff, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and maintaining accurate time/attendance records
  • Responds to and resolves complaints from the public
  • Assists the Director in developing and managing the departmental annual operating budget
  • Responds to routine requests for information from Council, residents, and staff
  • Assists the Director with the planning and project management of capital projects
  • Assesses development and maintenance needs of all municipal recreation facilities
  • Ensures all work is performed to provincial regulations, municipal standards, safety legislation and other related legislation/guidelines
  • Reviews, updates, and maintains departmental policies and procedures

Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of Health and Safety legislation, regulations, standards, and best practices
  • A valid Class G Ontario driver’s license and clean criminal record check are conditions of employment
  • Experience working in a unionized environment
  • Completion of a two (2) year diploma in a related discipline of study (recreation, building maintenance, horticulture/forestry, etc.)
  • Five (5) years’ experience in a municipal environment, preferably in Parks, Recreation and/or Facilities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience developing and managing a departmental budget
  • Proven organization and effective time management
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to problem solve
  • Experience in asset management and facility condition assessment
  • Project management experience, including managing large capital projects considered an asset
  • Supervisory experience required
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team

Compensation Details:

$83,254 – $97,395 (currently under review)
