About The Role


We are currently looking to hire a visionary leader with a passion for renewable energy to lead our East Canadian Wind Operations. As the Manager, East Canadian Wind Operations, you are primarily responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable operation, maintenance, and business results of TransAlta’s in-house and contracted Wind assets; through the application of operating/maintenance standards, procedures, and processes that ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.


This position exists to develop and implement operations and maintenance strategies within the year and is accountable to provide organizational leadership to TransAlta’s Wind asset portfolio through developing, implementing, and managing a 3-year business plan in alignment with the Director’s Wind & Solar Business Plan.


This role is based out of one of our Eastern Wind sites and is a full-time salaried, safety-sensitive position preferably in Melanchton or Sheulburne, Onatrio. Click here to learn more about our Eastern Wind sites in Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick.


What You Will Do


  • Accountable to uphold TransAlta values, thereby maintaining and enhancing reputation and stakeholder relations
  • Accountable for operational compliance to EHS, NERC, OHS, etc., plant availability, and cost through adherence to TransAlta operating procedures, policies, and applicable regulations
  • Accountable for developing and implementing business plans, budgets, and long-range forecasts
  • Supporting the daily to twelve-month operations and maintenance plan in alignment with the Director’s business plan through driving operational performance, achievement of business results, and continuous improvement
  • Ability to identify and mitigate risk that could negatively impact the agreed outcomes or business results, and identify and realize opportunities that could positively impact the agreed outcomes or business results


What We Need From You


To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following must-have qualifications and experience:


  • Must be consistently available as required unless accountability has been delegated and communicated to the Director
  • Able to revisit the priorities regularly to help set priorities that determine actions, leading to results, and able to manage many cases at the same time
  • Appropriate certification or education in a related discipline, and/or possess tangible and proven experience and skills
  • Good understanding of contractor requirements, procurement processes, and inventory management
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate with broad audiences as management, team, and internal and external stakeholders and can structures and convey ideas and information, both verbally and in writing, in a way that brings about understanding, commitment, and results
  • Values the work, is motivated, committed to the position, and has solid decision-making skills to manage outcomes with minimal supervision
  • Self-motivated and works with minimal supervision while consistently taking initiative
  • Provide due diligence for growth opportunities and integration activities for new assets
  • Has Wind or other fuel Operations, Business, Financial, and/or Commercial experience
  • Thorough understanding of the TransAlta operation model, plant risk and related mitigation strategies
  • Values the work, is passionate to succeed, is committed to delivering business results, and works with deliberate intent and urgency
  • Understanding of the operational aspects of the plant; technical, compliance, and financial
  • Comprehensive understanding of concepts and principles within own discipline and knowledge of others
  • Thorough understanding of how related teams coordinate their efforts and resources to achieve objectives
  • Must be consistently available as required with estimated travel requirements of 40%
  • Managing and reporting of business and financial aspects including production, availability, revenue, operating and capital expenses


Other Requirements


  • The position location is required to be at a Wind facility in the region (Ontario / Eastern Wind Sites)
  • Successful completion of pre-employment testing is a condition of employment
