Job Summary


The Faculty of Open Learning and Career Development develops and delivers innovative and diverse educational programs for more than 3000 students annually to help them navigate the changing world of learning and work. Reporting to the Director, Marketing, Communications and Business Development, the Manager, Community will advance the Faculty’s community engagement and outreach by conceptualizing, planning and implementing a series of annual events, and by supporting the development and implementation of additional events as needed, for outreach or fundraising.


Key Responsibilities


  • Support the Faculty in the implementation of event and conference sponsorships. Manage the finance of events to bring them in on budget.
  • Plan, organize, direct, coordinate, and manage all Faculty events focused on community outreach and public engagement programs, overseeing the full lifecycle of activities. Complete regular reporting on the community impact of events, including identifying associated key performance indicators.
  • Maintain a booth kit to ensure a seamless and professional visual presence for the Faculty at in-person events. Represent the Faculty at in-person events as required and available.
  • Collaborate with other community managers at the University to coordinate efforts and be part of other Faculties’ events or University-wide events.
  • Contribute to the conceptualization of new events and to event marketing and promotional activities, including writing and editing promotional materials. Set and implement social media activities to support day-of promotion.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, in collaboration with Directors and the Dean, to understand and recommend events for the Faculty to host or be a part of. Schedule meetings, distribute agenda, record and circulate minutes for relationship building initiatives and events.


Note


Travel within Nova Scotia and/or the Maritimes may be required.


The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Required Qualifications


  • Excellent initiative and attention to detail with innovative problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Collaborative and able to build consensus from stakeholders during the event planning process and apply basic project management skills.
  • Excellent communications skills (written and oral) with the ability to use multiple communication channels (social media, media) effectively.
  • Undergraduate degree in Communications or a related discipline plus approximately two to four years’ experience in event planning and/or community outreach (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Strong relationship building and management skills.
