Are you a detail-oriented individual with a passion for numbers and the legal industry? We have an exciting part-time opportunity that could potentially grow into a full-time role for the right candidate!
Join a prestigious law firm as a Legal Accounting Clerk, where you'll play a crucial role in managing and reporting the firm's finances. Reporting to the partners and working closely with the Accounting Support Consultant, you'll be responsible for daily legal accounting data entry and reporting, ensuring accurate financial records and compliance with legal accounting standards.

Responsibilities
Joining this prestigious group, some of the duties and responsibilities you will have include:
  • Generate comprehensive monthly reports, including client trust ledgers, bank journals, bank reconciliation reports, AP and AR aging summaries, and other customized reports as required.
  • Generate trust and general receipts, skillfully allocating funds to the appropriate client files.
  • Manage Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and client billing, ensuring smooth financial operations.
  • Directly communicate with clients regarding payments and outstanding receivables, fostering strong client relationships.
  • Maintain meticulous financial records, including bank statements, EFT authorizations (Form 9A), and other documents mandated by CRA and the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Utilize advanced legal accounting software to prepare records, reports, and ledgers efficiently.
  • Seamlessly handle financial procedures, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, month-end and year-end reports, HST returns, and bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare quarterly HST reports and summaries for filing, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Process client disbursements and vendor invoices accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Play a key role in preparing year-end accounting reports, such as Law Society of Ontario Trust Reporting and summary reports for corporate tax preparation.
Qualifications
Skills Required
To excel in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:
  • A keen eye for detail and accuracy, ensuring precise financial records and reports.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce CRM software, enabling you to leverage technology to enhance client interactions and workflows.
  • Sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential information, maintaining the highest levels of confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Experience working with legal accounting software, demonstrating your ability to navigate and utilize these platforms effectively.
  • Knowledge of online banking transactions and software, including EFTs, Wire payments, and business banking portals.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and analytical skills, allowing you to handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in popular office tools such as Office 365 and Google Drive.
  • A strong finance background within the legal industry, showcasing your familiarity with legal accounting practices and procedures, particularly related to trust accounts.
