Who We Are


The Buildings & Grounds team is here to provide exceptional services and facilities. As part of the Operations & Maintenance department, it is our mission to cultivate the buildings and grounds of SFU for people, knowledge and ideas to flourish. We achieve this through daily systems and services that create the conditions for campus to thrive.


About The Role


The Buildings & Grounds Labourer performs a variety of tasks involving manual /physical effort on many structures, road and grounds related construction and maintenance work as well as operates special equipment.


Qualifications


Minimum of 2 years of experience in areas such as operating equipment or general construction, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Valid BC driver's license (Class 5) and basic computer skills required.


  • Ability to work at heights.
  • Ability to stand, bend, twist, reach, and walk for a duration of a scheduled shift.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills including ability to follow written directions.
  • Ability to work with hazardous materials.
  • Ability to exercise mature judgment and initiative.
  • Ability to read and interpret Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHIMIS).
  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks requiring physical strength and agility.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and be self-motivated.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds on an on-going and regular basis.
  • Ability to work in small or confined spaces.
