Position Summary


The Labour Relations Manager position reports directly to the Director Labour relations for Worley as part of the People Team. This position is accountable for all Labour Relations support, strategy and direction for all Worley ECR business in Western Canada. Western Canada includes the Prairie provinces, as well as Alberta and British Columbia. In addition this position would support construction activities that may arise in this area in support of either the larger Field Services Business Unit, or support for Worley in the EPC and EPCM business lines.


Specific Accountabilities & Responsibilities


  • Direction and support in the areas of labour relations, labour legislation interpretation, site management training and development, labour policies, practices and procedures, development and implementation.
  • Taking a “hands-on”, supportive role in labour/employee relations issue prevention and/or resolution, and;
  • Monitoring and coordinating of labour related matters in a specific plant or number of plant areas for the Owner or Principal Contractor Project Manager(s).
  • Maintaining relationships with key external organizations, institutions, associations and governmental agencies that affect labour/employee relations.
  • Understands the commercial risks and opportunities associated with the collective bargaining agreements. Including the ability to support pricing of work against these agreements.
  • Develop and support first nation’s and/or targeted workforce initiatives.
  • Coordination of all labour related matters for the site involving all contractors.
  • Evaluating and communicating risks & opportunities of various labour/employee relations approaches to ensure appropriate decisions are made.
  • Develop, and support TFW programs and initiatives.
  • Liaison and coordination of LR matters among Worley, Worley’s customers, EPC & CM firms, construction contractors and subcontractors, unions, LR associations, etc.


HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENT


  • Report unsafe acts and conditions;
  • Participate and actively support our OneWay Program.
  • Comply with all Health and Safety Requirements established by Worley
  • Report any injury or illness immediately;
  • Follow safe work procedures and ensure all personnel comply;
  • Know and comply with all regulations and legislative requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act for the applicable Provinces and environmental standards


Ensure Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is available and is worn where and when required


Qualifications


EDUCATION, TRAINING, CERTIFICATIONS


  • Grade 12 or GED is required
  • Post-secondary education would be preferred
  • LR courses/certifications would be considered as an asset


Experience


  • Formal labour relations training and a minimum of 5 years of labour and employee relations experience, including experience with labour relations on a major industrial project involving construction and building trade unions.
  • Solid knowledge of Provincial and Federal labour relations practices
  • Emergency evacuation and/or disaster experience an asset.
  • A combination of union and construction contractor experience is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of construction industry and the LR exposure contained in this business segment.
