Junior Software Operations Engineer

The software engineering team at Vital is seeking an enthusiastic and curious software operations engineer to be on-site at our Mississauga, ON headquarters to support the various scientists and engineers there with our research and development systems.

What you'll do:

• Collaborate with the rest of the software team to improve quality of life and effectiveness in both using and implementing the R&D systems.
• Solve problems by writing or modifying research and development code and supporting others in its use.
• Diagnose issues with research and development systems, identify patterns and causes, correcting them or collaborating to correct them, and document them.
• Support sustainable engineering processes for a highly complex medical device.
• Support engineers' and research scientists' use of our custom analytic instruments.

What you’ll need:

• Interest in and desire to gain proficiency in functional programming.
• Proficiency with Git.
• Good communication skills and the desire to collaborate with a team of good natured professionals in a variety of disciplines.
• Proficiency with using Linux.
• Familiarity with scripting in Python or similar.
• Curiosity and aptitude for learning and problem solving.

Bonus points for:

• Appreciation of puns!
• Experience with or knowledge of functional programming and compile-time safety.
• Experience with networking and network protocols: TCP/IP, HTTP, JSON.
• Experience with or knowledge of NixOS.
• Familiarity with laboratory environments and in-vitro diagnostics.
