Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Process Engineering, the Junior Process Engineer/Process Specialist is a versatile resource applied in the execution of projects that have process and automation components.


The primary responsibilities, expectations, and qualifications of this role are outlined below.


Responsibilities and expectations:

  • Work closely with other discipline Engineers, Designers and Project Managers as a key team player within an integrated multi-disciplinary project delivery team.
  • Complete project tasks that include, but are not limited to initial design criteria and basis for design drawings, P&IDs, generation of data sheets and tag lists, transmittals for approval, spool drawing review
  • Aid in completion of mass balance, heat transfer, thermodynamic calculations, and other process related calculations.
  • Support commissioning and start-up activities
  • Liaise with clients, contractor representatives and/or project field personnel as necessary to assist with meeting key project deliverables with ability to identify, troubleshoot and resolve arising issues in a timely manner
  • Support fabrication team during construction to ensure design intent is met
  • Participate in the testing of the equipment in-house and on client’s sites
  • Conduct work in a professional manner and communicate a positive image personally and of the project
  • Assist in specifying major equipment, select valves and instruments, specify piping requirements
  • Aid in process control design related to mechanical systems as well as collaboration with the automation team.
  • Provide support in the inspection, approvals and verification of components and assemblies in both fab shop and field environments, including as-built of the final project
  • Support the Senior Process Engineer on projects
  • Support Field Supervisors in site troubleshooting, technical and maintenance assistance at customer locations

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in the design of fluid and bulk materials handling processes including preparation of process flow diagrams, heat and material balances and P&IDs
  • Familiarity with CFIA and HACCP requirements would be an asset
  • 2 to 4 years of experience in the Pharmaceutical and Biotech industry, Food and Beverage, Construction Engineering, Planning and/or Project Management, preferably in a variety of fields (i.e., Industrial, Beverage, Dairy an asset)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Registered (or eligible for registration) as a Professional Engineer in Ontario with solid knowledge of engineering codes and standards
  • Experience inor strong ability to learn quickly about the design of sanitary process systems including piping, vessels and skidded systems
  • Undergraduate Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with the ability to work both independently and in a team environment
