Colleges Ontario seeks new Junior Policy Analyst
Bring your energy and enthusiasm for public policy and post-secondary education to this exciting opportunity with Colleges Ontario, the advocacy association for the province’s 24 public colleges. Colleges Ontario is seeking a Junior Policy Analyst who will work with other team members to support college sector advocacy and initiatives that improve the ability of colleges to meet the changing needs of learners and the labour market.
This position is an ideal opportunity for a recent graduate of a public administration or public policy program to gain experience supporting policy development in a dynamic sector critical to Ontario’s economy.
What can I expect to do in this role?
The Junior Policy Analyst will act as a resource to support the work of the policy and innovation team. Working collaboratively with other team members, you will:
·Undertake foundational research, policy analysis and program impact on a range of topics that support the association’s advocacy agenda.
·Conduct literature reviews, and environmental scans, including gathering, synthesizing, and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data to inform policy projects.
·Support the formulation, implementation, and monitoring of policy projects, programs, and special initiatives.
·Provide support in the development of position papers, presentations, correspondence, submissions, and other forms of communication for a variety of stakeholders.
·Work collaboratively with a wide range of diverse internal and external partners to exchange information, address emerging issues, and provide support to working groups and project teams.
How do I qualify?
Policy knowledge and research/analytical skills
·Successful completion of a degree or postgraduate certificate in business, political science, or public administration, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
·You have demonstrated knowledge of policy development principles and the ability to conduct policy research and analysis.
·Experience conducting literature reviews, including the ability to summarize complex information into understandable and user-friendly formats for reporting and knowledge transfer to team members and other stakeholders.
·You are able to review, assess, and summarize information from multiple sources to incorporate into analysis and reports.
·You have demonstrated the ability to apply conceptual thinking to issues and to develop options to address issues.
·You have demonstrated the ability to learn quickly about the role of colleges in meeting Ontario’s labour market needs.
Project management, problem-solving and time management skills
·You have project management skills to plan, organize and undertake your work independently and in a team environment.
·You have demonstrated the ability to organize information, manage multiple demands and meet timelines in a dynamic environment.
Communication and interpersonal skills:
·You have demonstrated written communication skills to draft policy papers, reports, analysis, correspondence, and other materials.
·You have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders while focusing on fostering collaborative work relationships.
·You have demonstrated the ability to build and develop stakeholder relationships.
·You have effective facilitation skills to gather information and work with teams.
Computer proficiency:
·Experience in using virtual platforms and MS Office Suite, including the use of virtual platforms for conducting meetings.
