Junior Distribution Designer/Engineer

Roles and Responsibilities

POWER Engineers is seeking a talented Civil or Electrical Engineer or Technologist to join our Power Distribution design team. Under the guidance of multiple experienced Engineers and Technologists, the successful candidate will participate in all utility distribution design aspects. The position will involve developing new designs by applying knowledge of electric utility systems and their operation, applying engineering calculations to project challenges to produce skilled plans, designing packages for construction, and performing a quality review of project deliverables. The successful candidate will have opportunities to work with teams across Canada and the USA. Some travel to Canada and the USA may be required for training or project-specific site visits.

Required Education/Experience

• Must be able to pass a client's background check along with client drug and alcohol screening processes as required
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Experience using the Microsoft Office software suite
• Technical college diploma (Civil/Electrical) or a university degree in Civil/Electrical Engineering
• Must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
• Ability to work in design teams is self-motivated to perform assigned tasks and willing to take the initiative to learn the position
• Must have a strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel

Desired Education/Experience

• Self-motivated to perform assigned tasks
• Attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills will be critical for the successful completion of tasks
• Prior Distribution system industry experience is preferred but not required
• Exposure to utility standards, CSA, and an understanding of powerline construction techniques
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively with different personalities
• Strong computer design skills, the ability to learn new software packages efficiently, and retain and apply on-the-job training
