We have a challenging full-time opportunity for a Junior or Intermediate Surface Water Technician/Scientist to join our dynamic team in Alberta. The successful candidate will be dedicated to a top-tier client’s oil sands operation and work on a field rotation schedule of 14 days on site (including mobilization and demobilization) followed by 14 days off. Accommodation while on rotation is at a camp near the client’s mine site.


Overall Responsibilities And Key Accountabilities


  • Travel as required for field rotations.
  • Assist with regulatory compliance requirements (reporting, etc);
  • Surface water data management and interpretation;
  • Tracking and reporting on field activity;
  • Assist with other on-site programs (e.g. wildlife, groundwater, wetlands, aquatics) as required;
  • Perform tasks as requested efficiently and accurately, using standard methods and techniques;
  • Preparing supporting documentation for reports, data checking & assessments; and
  • Coordinate with on-site construction crews to understand ongoing construction activities and identify safe sampling locations and schedules;
  • Measure and record surface water field parameters;
  • Assisting Project Managers in all aspects of project execution;
  • Participation with on-site safety and associated documentation;
  • Collect surface water samples for laboratory analysis, following proper sampling and handling protocols;


Qualifications


  • Comfortable working in remote settings;
  • Working toward certification (e.g. Technologist-in-Training or Biologist in Training with ASPB) or member of a professional organization such as ASET is considered an asset;
  • Class 5 driver’s licence;
  • Excellent computer skills;
  • Strong technical writing skills;
  • Ability to work within a team environment;
  • Ability to meet work site vaccination requirements with respect to Covid-19.
  • At least 1 year experience in either the oil and gas industry or mining is considered an asset;
  • Comfortable working in dynamic construction setting;
  • Self-starter and flexible team player;
  • Strong interpersonal, management and leadership skills;
  • Familiarity with surface water sampling techniques;
  • Familiarity with surface water quality guidelines is considered an asset;
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills; and
  • Familiarity with Argo operation would be an asset;
