Job Summary

Provide technical expertise and support to the Drafting team and work closely with internal stakeholders in delivering high quality standards to all projects for the business.

DIRECT AND INDIRECT REPORTS

Indirect – Resourcing and overseeing the work of Project Teams (Job Captains, Autocad Techs/Drafters)

Management/Supervision/Leadership

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Liaison with the Design Team and other Team members
• Provide training to the team
• Give guidance to Auto Cad Techs on creating shop drawings and help them to understand the content of information
• Overseeing the work and reviewing of all drawings of the assigned CAD Technicians with the project assigned and reporting progress and issues to drafting management with timelines and deadlines.

Health & Safety

• Report any known workplace hazards or violations of the Act to the employer or supervisor.
• Work in compliance with the Health & Safety Act and regulations including using any equipment, protective devices or clothing required by the employer;

Technical / Function-Specific

• Coordination with Autocad Technicians for ensuring that the proper inputs are attained to create the shop drawings, including pre-engineering and project information form review.
• Develop, and prepare unitized curtain wall shop drawings from architectural, structural, precast, electrical, mechanical, safety anchor system for window cleaning and maintenance drawings, specifications and engineering data.
• Generate RFI’s for clarification during the shop drawings process.
• Complete documentation packages and produce shop drawings sets within scheduled timelines.
• Participate in the drafting meetings and key stakeholder meetings for reviewing the project assigned in regards the timeline and drafting issues with the generation of shop drawings.
• Make suggestions for improvement and feedback ideas to management
• Obtain CAD files necessary from the Project Management team and coordinate with Project and Drafting managers in order to deliver on projects
• Develop and prepare design sketches for proposals, request for instructions and revisions in progress as required.
• Operate (CAD) software, to design, prepare and produce detailed drawings per contract documents and specifications and guide team members in its use
• Brainstorm as part of a team in developing design concepts.
• Produce MTO’s to a high standard of accuracy prior to submission
• Check and verify shop drawings to confirm specifications and design data.
• Work with assigned drafters on projects and apply details of standard systems.

Internal / External Customer Service

• Communicate with all internal stakeholders (Project Management, Breakdown and Estimating) in regards the window wall scope of work for the project assigned.

Administration

• Organize and maintain the CAD digital file for the project in the respective folder.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY OPERATE IN THE ROLE Education

• Min requirement - College Diploma in Architectural Technology, or Building Science or Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering

Experience

• Extensive experience of reading and interpreting blueprints
• Working knowledge of Revit preferred
• Working in a manufacturing environment
• Solid experience of using Autocad, Bluebeam and Microsoft packages
• Window-wall experience is a strong asset
• Minimum 7+ years of experience in unitized curtain wall
