Comfab Aluminum is an aluminum and curtain walls supplier specialized in manufacturing stick curtain walls, interior screens, and canopies. Comfab Aluminum is part of the Toro group of companies. Comfab Aluminum is excited to expand its Drafting team and is hiring a Job Captain. The role is best suited to candidates that are passionate & experienced in Building Envelope design. The candidate will be responsible for project delivery from the review & shop drawing stage to material take-offs and fabrication releases for production.


You are an experienced Curtain Wall Job Captain or an Architectural Drafting Lead that is ready for your next step up. You are passionate about your job, and you take great pride in all the projects you have worked on. You enjoy working with your team and always take your time in educating and training them on all technical aspects of building envelope.


You will be working with a team of highly skilled and enthusiastic individuals from varying professional backgrounds including architectural, structural, BIM management. Our team is progressive and is always looking for better workflows and procedures to improve the project delivery process.


We organize weekly team building activities, as well as monthly in-person team gatherings.

Major Responsibilities/Accountabilities


Management/Supervision/Leadership (if applicable)


  • You will be responsible for successful project delivery by managing 5-10 projects in different stages, from pre-drafting coordination and planning to client submissions & approvals, to fabrication drawings and site support during installation. Your role will be focused on project planning, coordination & technical reviews.
  • You will also be responsible for mentoring our growing team of BIM specialists which are focused on shop drawing production.


Technical/Function (if applicable)


  • Review material take-offs before they are released for ordering.
  • Help junior team members design non-standard project specific details.
  • Coordinate & communicate with other internal stakeholders such as engineering, project management, estimating, site coordinators, and building envelope specialists.
  • Review project documents (Arch/Stru/Mech/Specs) to create pre-drafting trackers & pre-engineering requests, review setbacks, review & confirm CW scope, RFI any design coordination items, and attend project meetings with your project team and with external consultants.
  • Review received instructions including RFIs, SIs, and reviewed shop drawings, and plan action items required.
  • Conduct weekly project meetings required for coordination and review of team`s work, ensuring project is on track as per schedule while maintaining the highest quality of work.
  • Lead internal review sessions of shop drawings with Toro internal consultants such as engineering and building envelope.
  • Review fabrication releases including fabrication drawings, BOMs, cutting lists & ship loose lists before they are released to the shop.
  • Work closely with key departments (e.g. Project Management Team) to ensure projects are delivered on time
  • Onboard your project team on the project requirements and ensure they have the necessary information to create accurate shop drawing details & models.
  • Maintain project document control on all platforms (Server/Bluebeam/Plangrid).

Education And Qualifications


  • Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or similar field.


Experience


  • 5-10 years of experience in AutoCAD.
  • 2-5 years of experience in an Architectural Team Lead or similar role.
  • 2-5 years of experience in Curtain Wall in a similar role.
  • 1-2 years of experience in Revit is a strong asset.
