The Role


PETRONAS Canada has an opportunity for an Indigenous Relations Advisor to support our upstream business in northeast British Columbia. This role will be key to building and maintaining strong, positive relationships with local Indigenous communities and organizations. The successful individual will collaborate with communities to coordinate company involvement and support for community programs, events, and other initiatives.


The position will ideally be based in Fort St. John, BC, however; Calgary-based candidates may also be considered. The position will require frequent travel to communities in the region.


Responsibilities


  • Collaborate with communities to support training and employment initiatives
  • Build transparency, communication and awareness of company operations and activities, by proactively sharing information with local communities
  • Build strong, positive relationships at all levels with local Indigenous communities and organizations
  • Establish and maintain effective communication networks
  • Collaborate with communities to support local programs, events and initiatives
  • Work with internal departments to facilitate the inclusion of community values and interests into business plans
  • Build and maintain programs and initiatives to support Indigenous youth
  • Coordinate community contributions, sponsorships and donations


What You Bring


  • Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and appreciation for Indigenous cultures, history, rights, and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action
  • Proven ability to collaborate and build relationships internally and externally
  • 3-5 years’ work experience in Indigenous Community Relations, or a related field
  • University degree in a relevant discipline
  • Strong organizational skills
