The Organization
The OHBA is a Not-for-Profit organization and is the voice of the residential construction, land development and professional renovators’ industry in Ontario and draws membership from 27 local associations located across Ontario.We represent approximately 4,000 member companies
Position
The OHBA Government Relations and Policy Advisor is a full-time position with all normal benefits and bonus eligibility.The OHBA Government Relations and Policy Advisor reports directly to the OHBA Chief Executive Officer.The OHBA Government Relations and Policy Advisor works closely with the Manager of Government Relations and with the Director of Communications, Marketing and Events.
Key Responsibilities
The key responsibilities of the OHBA Government Relations and Policy Advisor include the following:
Overview
·Providing the association, leadership team and broader membership with updates concerning provincial government activity and engagement opportunities.
·Identifying opportunities for advocacy such as Standing or Select Committee hearings, written submissions, Cabinet Committees and Ministry events.
·Preparing submission documents for these opportunities including the preparation of briefing notes, slide decks, speaking notes and other materials as needed.
·Maintaining a broad network of contact within the government including the Premier and Ministerial offices.
·Supporting local HBAs and members when engaging with Members of Provincial Parliament, whether in individual meetings or through organized events, such as the OHBA Queen’s Park Advocacy Day.
·Assisting the OHBA Director of Communications, Marketing and Events with political communications, social media posts and other materials as needed.
·Understanding and effectively communicating the needs of the Association’s membership to key government officials on both the political and bureaucratic sides.
·Collaborating with industry partners including RESCON, MMAH, OBOA and others.
