Job Description

Precon is an independent precast concrete company supplying to the underground utilities and irrigation industries in Western Canada and the Northwestern United States. We take great pride in manufacturing engineered precast concrete solutions to meet our customers’ specific needs and in providing unparalleled customer service.

Location: Coalhurst, AB

Start date: ASAP

Hours: 40+ hours/week. Monday to Friday, occasional Saturdays, or weekends. Various shift start times (5:00am-9:00am). Daytime hours with frequent overtime.

Compensation: Starting rate of $18-$22/hour, commensurate with previous experience.

Work Term: Temporary work term with the opportunity to extend or become permanent.

Reports to: Department Coordinator, Team Lead, and Assistant Team Lead

Direct Reports/Supervises: None

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness and regular upkeep of your work area, the yard, and any other applicable equipment.
  • Participate in training and on-going learning opportunities.
  • Perform routine operational inspections and maintenance on forklifts or other motorized equipment. Promptly notify appropriate personnel of any issues according to policy, procedures and expectations. Take proper steps to lock out and remove from service any affected equipment, to ensure safety so that no one else uses the equipment by mistake in the meantime.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors.
  • Operate forklift and other motorized equipment to lift, move, position and place product, machinery, materials, and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Inspect loads for accuracy and secure material for transport in accordance with policies, procedures, checklists, and other expectations. Manually or mechanically load and unload materials safely.

Requirements

  • Has reliable transportation to get to and from work (we are located 15 minutes outside of Lethbridge).
  • Very reliable. Can show up to work on time, ready for work, and as scheduled.
  • Valid and current forklift ticket.
  • Available to work different start times, overtime, and weekends if needed.

  • Committed to safety; is committed to a healthy and safe work environment. Is willing to do their part and participate in regular meetings, hazard assessments, and other Health & Safety items.
  • Proficient with basic technology (mobile phones, apps, etc.), and computers.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, manufacturing environment. Is able to work well with others.
  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, team spirit. Approaches problems with challenges and solutions.
  • Strong communication skills. Able to communicate with others effectively and respectfully.
  • WHMIS 2015 certificate.

Bonus Points for

  • Experience operating forklifts/heavy motorized equipment.
  • Experience in manufacturing, production, or construction industry.

Work Conditions and Context

  • Other: Required to maintain cleanliness and regular upkeep of work area and other equipment; participate in training and on-going learning opportunities.
  • Equipment and Machinery: Regularly required to operate and assist in maintaining mobile equipment.
  • Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, managers.
  • Technology: Use of technology, phones, computers, and programs, etc. is required.
  • Travel/Transportation: Precon is located outside of Lethbridge, so reliable transportation is required. Occasional out-of-area and overnight travel may also be expected for training purposes.
  • Conditions: We are a manufacturing/production facility; work will take place in the yard and potentially in the manufacturing areas with overhead and other hazards. Work will be performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions and temperatures and will involve conditions of heat, cold, dust, noise, wind. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required (i.e., hard hat, high-visibility clothing, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, mask, etc.) and potential specialty PPE (I.e., fall arrest harness, etc.) for circumstances that require it.
