Overview

Job Location: Summerland, BC.

Crush Dynamics is an innovative agritech company focused on the transformation of grape derivatives into highly nutritious food ingredients.


The Food Production Engineer position is central to the growth of Crush Dynamics’ production and will play a key role in building the company’s operational culture. You will be responsible for supporting the scale-up and optimization of production processes in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. The role is very hands-on in a variety of environments (outdoor on-farm and in a food manufacturing environment). You will improve existing processes through data collection and analytics in all areas of production - raw materials, in process materials, environmental and operating conditions. This role is for someone who is solutions oriented, wants to be a key player on a growing team and gain hands on experience in a novel manufacturing environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the safety culture on the manufacturing floor.
  • Work collaboratively with third party contract manufacturers, as required.
  • Support creation of SOPs, logs and work instructions for new or updated processes.
  • Collect, analyze and interpret production data.
  • Create and maintain documentation and tracking tools for monitoring of process parameters.
  • Have a good understanding and experience with Safety and Quality standards, control, and procedures.
  • Design and prototype new systems and processes and provide facilities & methods to ensure the cost effective integration of new products or for the improvement of existing ones into manufacturing operations.
  • Lead operation and troubleshooting of production equipment both on the farm and in the production facility.
  • Identify manufacturing needs for new products in development
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process issues encountered during production. Provide ongoing technical support to operators.
  • Conduct sanitation activities, as required, to meet GMP requirements.
  • Work closely with the team to ensure all product batches are of the highest quality.
  • Train new operators and coop students on production policies and procedures.
  • Lead equipment maintenance planning and execution.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements (equipment, environment, and workflow) that will help increase productivity, reduce product losses, enhance manufacturing flexibility and capacity, improve product quality and safety, and improve environmental compliance.
  • Support scale up of processes from R&D to commercial production.
  • Support facility expansion projects, design, commissioning and installation of new equipment.

Job Skills & Requirements

  • Systematic thinker with strong organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Strong computer knowledge including Excel and other Microsoft Office applications required.
  • Effective communication skills, with an emphasis on technical writing/reporting and verbal communication.
  • Experience working in a food manufacturing environment or similar.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical/Process, Mechanical, Industrial or equivalent.
  • Happy working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience working in a GMP facility is an asset.
  • Must be highly motivated, proactive, and willing to take on new challenges.
