Job Description

COMPANY SUMMARY:

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director of Operations the role of the Fabrication Manager is to calculate labour and equipment requirements, production schedules and production specifications, using standard formulas. To set up and adjust machines and equipment according to the project and project portfolio needs. Maintain operations data, such as time, production, and cost records, and prepare management reports of production results. Monitor production output, supervise and support Fabrication Leads, and ensure that products meet customer specifications and quality expectations.


POSITION DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with QA and QC to create and manage product inspection systems as part of the quality performance assurance program
  • Review and approve timesheets and timecard codes on a weekly basis
  • Reviewing BOM and other design documents to ensure that the information is adequate for fabricating the product to spec.
  • Responsible for maintaining an adequate supply of departmental shop supplies and materials
  • Ensure training and education of staff on new equipment, new systems and protocols
  • Enforce safety rules through ongoing communication and Toolbox meetings
  • Organize and manage the weekly production schedule aligned to the PMO portfolio
  • Provide guidance and leadership to Supervisors to ensure effective and efficient flow of work, and ensure all employees recognize their fundamental role in the production process
  • Support Director of Operations in creating and managing annual tooling and machinery budget
  • Accountable for ensuring that all shop employees follow documented processes and instructions
  • Facilitate employee hiring, training and development. Ensure training and education on specific tasks and Standard Operating Procedures
  • Ensure administration is up to date and accurate and maintain a clean, organized and safe workplace
  • Coordinate with the SCM team to ensure parts are ordered and received in time for scheduled production
  • Increase efficiency and reduce downtime by implementing process improvements along with continuous monitoring and analysis of performance
  • Monitor product quality throughout the fabrication process to ensure that it meets REV standards
  • Meet with the Engineering and Design staff and Project Managers to develop and test new products to market to the Estimating and Key Account Management teams
  • Track labour and material resources to each product and project
  • Oversee fabrication shop schedule and deadlines to ensure that projects are completed on time
  • Provide technical clarifications to shop personnel to support their work and prevent costly interruption due to lack of information
  • Provide monthly production rate information to Estimating staff for potential new projects
  • Meet with the Engineering and Design staff on existing product lines to review quality, production rates, production costs and issues


POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience implementing and managing safety systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of a high school Diploma or equivalent, journeyman welding ticket considered an asset and a diploma in Engineering Design and Drafting Technology is preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working with automated equipment such as Laser Cutting Machine, Punch, Brake and Shear
  • Knowledge and exposure to production scheduling, continuous improvement, lean/six sigma methodologies and mechanical engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a leadership role in a fabrication environment
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in an engineering fabrication environment
  • Expert working knowledge of fabrication machines such as laser cutting machine, punch, brake and shear.
