Job Description

The position will be an integral technical resource for the Team, leading and/or supporting challenging and innovative engineering projects. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of typical mechanical duties, the ability to complete tasks with little to no oversight and an aptitude for transparent communication with the Engineering Team Leader and Project Managers. Their main responsibilities will include the design, development and review of custom fabrication equipment.

As Alps moves towards providing additional engineering design services, the Fabrication Engineer needs to understand clients’ businesses and have an interest in helping the company grow by offering more value-added services to those clients. It is important that the candidate have strong general business acumen in addition to project management expertise


Responsibilities


• Contributing to small to large-sized projects while interfacing with other disciplines to ensure successful project completion.

• Providing great value to our customers through technically strong and efficient work.

• Managing time and commitments to the project(s) to achieve project schedules.

• Develop the mechanical design calculations of pressure vessels and heat exchanges.

• Ensure designs comply with industry standards, codes and client specifications.

• Utilize CAD software to develop 3D models and 2D drawings of custom fabrication equipment, including GAs, weld maps, and production sketches

• Checking and approving other team members’ deliverables, as required.

• Authenticate engineering drawings and deliverables, as required.

• Attending and providing input in the internal team and technical discussion meetings.

• Develop and revise weld procedures and specifications

• Provide technical support to the production team to resolve design and fabrication issues

• Review vendor proposals and provide technical support during the procurement process

• Act as a technical mentor to junior team members and provide guidance and training as needed


Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering and a Registered P.Eng.

• 5+ years’ experience with engineering responsibility on fabrication projects.

• Experience working on project teams consisting of engineers and designers/drafters.

• High level of knowledge of Pressure Vessels, Heat Exchangers and other static equipment

• Knowledge of COMPRESS pressure vessel design software and manual design calculation in accordance with ASME Section VIII Div-I & Div-II. (Familiarity with FEA a plus)

• Strong knowledge of design codes such as ASME, API, TEMA, HEI, NACE, CSA etc.

• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

• Strong analytical and engineering problem-solving skills.

• Solid written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work independently and participate and collaborate in project team activities.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, SolidWorks, and AutoCAD

• Excellent relationship management skills, both internally and externally.

• Ability to work well both independently and in a cross-functional team with Sales, Project Management, Quality, and Production to support successful fabrication projects for our customers.
