Are you a person of many skills? Do you enjoy variety? Are you passionate about the environment? Self-directed? We are looking for an intermediate to senior person to help us transition to the next evolution of our organization. We offer flexible work arrangements and a highly collegial vibe, while taking our growing and evolving work very seriously.
About the ALIDP
The ALIDP is a non-profit society with a mission to equip Albertans to build vibrant, ecologically functional landscapes within the built environment, through comprehensive stormwater management. Our members are municipal staff, consulting engineers, landscape architects, planners, ecologists, urban foresters, parks staff, academics and product vendors. We make a space for Alberta’s professionals to come together – to teach, to listen and to network.
But that’s not all. We work on four pillars to advance the implementation of green infrastructure in urban areas: policy, research/ demonstration/ feasibility, professional education/training, and citizen engagement/outreach. You might find us outside--building gardens and participating in community events; or developing curriculum and hosting industry training and networking events; or facilitating working groups to advance innovation, align efforts across disciplines and jurisdictions, and remove barriers to implementation. Wherever there are challenges, we look for technical solutions and common ground to benefit both people and the environment.
The society has been incorporated since 2008. We have a strong core of volunteer professionals at both the board and working-group level. After 15 years with a single staff person, we are looking to transition to the next generation of leadership.
About the Role
Reporting to the Executive Director, you will learn the ropes of the organization and progressively take on responsibility in the following areas:
Communications and Marketing
- Signage, promotional items, display and trade show materials and participation
- E-newsletters
- Social media (LinkedIn, Instagram)
- Website maintenance and development (alidp.org; resilientlandscaping.ca)
- Analytics
Educational Materials
- Industry-facing (e.g., on-demand training, presentation materials)
- Citizen-facing (e.g., flyers, guidance manuals, how-to videos)
Event Management
- Annual to Bi-annual conference and trade show
- Community outreach
- Third-party presentations and displays
- Summer site tours
- Monthly-ish online webinars
- Garden planting
Administration
- Tracking records, forms, spreadsheets
- Internal document development and management
- Grantwriting
- Membership management (approximately 1200 records)
As the Executive Director-in-training, you will support all facets of the planning, development, coordination, integration and execution of both internal and external programs and initiatives of the organization. You will apply your skills in communications, logistics, event management, curriculum development, marketing, education, engagement, project management and administration. It is not expected that you will bring all competencies to the position but will, over time, either choose to specialize in a certain area or continue in a generalist role and progress to assuming the Executive Director position.
The position can be tailored and adjusted over time to the skills, aptitudes and goals of the successful candidate. Initially, the role will prioritize the development of a concise policy and procedures manual, participation in community outreach events, assumption of the bulk of the communications portfolio, and helping administrate our Designing for Tomorrow November 2023 conference/trade show/training event. If the successful candidate has more technical knowledge, they may work on developing on-demand professional training or be involved in other more technical projects from the outset.
