Job Description
Maul Foster & Alongi, Inc. (MFA) is seeking a full-time Project Planner, who possesses a strong focus on sustainable development, to join our team. This role offers the flexibility to work from any of our offices. As our Project Planner, your primary responsibility will be to develop permitting plans and strategies that prioritize sustainable development. Utilizing your extensive knowledge of environmental regulations, you will ensure that key compliance points are understood and addressed, while also considering potential environmental impacts. Managing a variety of projects in Washington and Oregon, you will collaborate closely with clients and stakeholders. Your expertise in project management, coupled with your passion for environmental planning, will be instrumental in driving successful outcomes. This position encompasses all facets of project execution, including analysis, report and proposal writing, as well as comprehensive project management. By serving as the main point of contact for clients, you will actively shape the future of communities and make a tangible impact on their development.
As a Project Planner, you will...
  • Work on a variety of projects for public and private sector clients this includes environmental permitting and review, state and federal environmental permit applications, technical studies, and SEPA and NEPA compliance.
  • Assist in client and regulatory agency discussions and negotiations.
  • Assist in development and implementation of proposals, scopes, schedules, and budgets for project work.
  • Be responsible for spearheading or supporting the creation of permitting plans and strategies that align with client requirements while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Support community engagement and communications activities.
  • Work independently and solicit input from mentors.
  • Assist in development of planning concepts and strategies in collaboration with a team.
  • Support project planning, cost estimating, permitting, and reporting needs.
To thrive in this role, you must have...
  • Ability to work comfortably as a project manager within a team environment.
  • Well-developed analytical abilities and impeccable writing skills.
  • Familiarity with in-water and near-shore, federal, state and local permitting, including Clean Water Act Section 404/401 and Endangered Species Act
  • Ability to work independently and under supervision of a project manager and collaboratively managing others.
  • Excellent oral and visual communication skills.
  • AICP certification or desire to achieve one a plus!
  • Experience in a consulting environment a plus!
  • Sound technical capabilities and organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Growing knowledge of the philosophies, principles, practices, and techniques of land use planning.
  • Be a strong writer with a curious intellect.
  • 5+ years of professional experience with land use or environmental planning, reviews and permitting.
  • Proficiency in MS Software, including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with Washington and/or Oregon land use laws, regulations & policy.
  • Bachelor's degree in planning, environmental science, policy or a related field; Master's degree preferred.

Compensation Range: $80,000 to $103,000 a year
