Job Description

We are seeking an Environmental Biogeochemist to join our Mining & Metallurgy, Tailing, Water, Environment Group. The successful candidate will report to the Director Mine Water Resources Western Canada and will work with the TWE team on mining projects.

Our Mining and Metallurgy (M&M) Tailings Water Environmental (TWE) team helps integrate environmental considerations into every stage of a project and provide tailor-made engineering services to help our clients achieve their productivity goals and adapt to changing market conditions. SNC-Lavalin plays an active role in supporting mining companies in their environmental management in order to meet current standards and facilitate the social acceptability of projects. The team combines global-caliber expertise to provide tailored solutions for projects of any size, scope, or complexity. The role will be based in Burnaby, Montreal, Toronto or Calgary.
Your role within the team
  • Collaborate with other disciplines to deliver comprehensive solutions.
  • Support and manage the execution of mining environment projects.
  • Willingness to travel for short periods of time (1 week or less) to mine sites, metallurgical plants and other SNC-Lavalin facilities as required by the project.
  • Participate in the preparation of service offers.
  • Participate in project meetings.
  • Participate in the writing and presentation of technical papers.

The Ideal Candidate
  • Eligible for registration with Engineers Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC) or equivalent professional association.
  • Comprehensive understanding of microbes in the environmental/mining engineering applications specifically with regards to monitoring, characterization/classification, forensic application to environmental conditions, fate and degradation of mining-related contaminants is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work well in a team with demonstrated good work ethic, time management and strong people-skills.
  • Post-graduate degree in engineering, science or related field is considered an asset.
  • Excellent command of English, communication skills (spoken and written).
