With the above vision in mind, SNC-Lavalin is looking for a career-oriented Environmental Geospatial Analyst to join our team. This position is based in our Burnaby, Vancouver, Saskatoon or Calgary offices. However, consideration will be given to other locations where SNC-Lavalin has offices in Western Canada.
Qualifications
The accountabilities and responsibilities of a Geospatial Analyst include, but are not limited to, the creation, management, and manipulation of both spatial and non-spatial data and associated metadata, as well as the production of tabular and cartographic figures and data visualizations, which may include web-mapping application support. The Geospatial Analyst can also support digital field-to-office workflows. The role involves liaison with both internal and external clients, as well as short and medium term planning and time management to meet project specific objectives.
  • Use of at least one ESRI ArcGIS field worker app is required: ArcGIS Field Maps, ArcGIS Survey 123, and/or ArcGIS Workforce.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Use of Esri ArcGIS Desktop or Pro is required.
  • Completed post-secondary education in a related field (Certificate, Diploma, Degree, etc.) – B.Sc. or B.A. or M.Sc. in Geography, Computer Science or GIS related Environmental Discipline.
  • 3 years of related experience in Environmental Geospacial Engineering
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to change priorities to meet group needs.
  • Use of Esri ArcGIS Geodatabases is required.
  • Self-starter with the competence to take initiative and go beyond what the job situation requires.
  • Use of Esri AGOL is required.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct basic analysis and use of proximity tools.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and serve as support in a number of capacities.
Having one or more of the following would be considered an asset:
  • Experience with watershed analysis.
  • Bilingual (English/French)
  • Understanding fundamentals cartography principles.
  • Experience performing field data collection.
  • Programing language (i.e. Python, SQL)
  • Experience with creating 3D models in Scene.
  • Arc Enterprise and Portal.
  • ESRI Storymaps.
  • Utility mapping experience.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office with proven advanced skills in utilizing Access and Excel.
  • ArcGIS topology experience.
  • Knowledge of sciences and/or environmental industry.
  • Experience with FME.
  • Experience with Adobe Illustrator.
  • Experience with working with a variety of data sources (e.g. Lidar, AutoCAD files, CSV, etc.).
  • Knowledge of QGIS is considered an asset.
Job Duties
  • Work with all forms of data sources (e.g. Lidar, AutoCAD files, CSV, etc.)
  • Ability to detect problems in using standardization procedures due to changes in client needs or project direction.
  • Conduct various analysis (e.g. buffer, lidar, best route etc.)
  • Prepare data documentation or metadata for GIS projects
  • Prepare maps and exhibits with GIS data sets; either static map figures or interactive webmaps
  • Create 3D models (e.g. hydrogeological models)
  • Work across different time zones
  • Maintain good working relationship with office management and staff across all offices.
  • Maintain project files related to GIS projects.
  • Participate in Client needs analyses
  • Apply standard techniques and procedures in carrying out a sequence of diversified GIS tasks requiring the use of analysis, interpretation, and deductive reasoning.
  • Create electromagnetic mapping figures and conducting analysis
  • Maintain knowledge of technology developments in the Geospatial field and use of GIS software
  • Exercise independent judgment in planning, scheduling, and organizing work assignments.
  • Create, manage, and manipulate spatial and non-spatial data and associated metadata.
