Job Description

Environment Coordinator

Campbell River, BC


Introduction

We are currently hiring an Environment Coordinator for our client based in Campbell River, BC. This is a huge opportunity to be a part of a project that involves multiple industries including renewable energy, natural gas, and sustainable food production. This role offers an opportunity to be involved in a wide range of responsibilities related to environmental management and sustainability. The Environment Coordinator will play a crucial role in coordinating environmental assessments, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, managing environmental and social systems, and fostering positive relationships with stakeholders, including First Nations communities.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure successful application of government grants by providing complete and accurate information
  • Maintain and cultivate positive relations with First Nations communities and other parties affected by Discovery Park's development
  • Coordinate the execution of the environmental assessment process, ensuring efficient and timely completion
  • Collaborate with project teams to integrate environmental and social elements into project development plans
  • Develop and manage environmental and social systems and practices to promote sustainable operations
  • Lead the preparation of high-quality environmental permitting documentation, adhering to regulatory standards
  • Develop and implement environmental compliance management systems to monitor and enhance environmental performance


Requirements

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex information to diverse stakeholders
  • Have a minimum of 2-5 years of experience in an environmental position, demonstrating a strong understanding of environmental assessments, permitting, compliance management, and due diligence
  • Demonstrated success in collaborating closely with First Nations communities and other affected parties
  • Possess a post-secondary degree specializing in a related technical environmental discipline or equivalent experience
  • Proven ability to strategically prioritize workload and action grants effectively
  • Familiarity with the funding application process, research methods, reports, grant writing, and administration, preferably in a local government setting and with programs like the Federal Gas Tax program (e.g., Strategic Innovation Fund or SRED)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of British Columbia and Canadian environmental regulatory and permitting requirements
