Title


Employment Coordinator


Position


Part Time (20 hours) Primarily front-line with minimal administration hours.


Hours


Monday - Friday, some evenings, and weekends may be required.


Potential to increase hours by incorporating front-line Inclusion Support and expanding our employment program in the Nanaimo area.

Employment is an important part of creating lives with connection in communities of belonging. As an Employment Coordinator you are responsible for leading a team of employment facilitators in exploring and securing job opportunities for people with diverse abilities. Your focus will be workforce development and leading your team to achieve individual's goals. A key component of your role is to develop and maintain relationships with employers and community organizations to identify job opportunities. This involves creating community networks and promoting the benefits of hiring people with diverse abilities. This may involve organizing events, participating, and speaking at conferences or community meetings.


Qualifications


  • Must be in good health with the physical ability to carry out the duties of the position & shift responsibilities
  • Excellent interpersonal behaviour and communication skills
  • Preferred formal education (i.e.CSW, RCA, SIVA etc.) and/or relevant work experience
  • The desire and ability to work with persons with diverse abilities and demonstrated personal suitability to promote dignity, independence, and individuality
  • Ability to work independently

  • Ability to support and promote a friendly and effective working relationship with community partnerships
  • Ability to support and work with individuals to discover passions and interest and help them find inclusive and meaningful employment.
  • Ability to support individuals to communicate needs, choices and preferences, and to support the use of inclusive communication strategies
  • Ability to follow protocols, policies, and procedures
  • Ability to promote respectful treatment of individuals and defend individual rights, including demonstration of a high degree of tolerance for the individual's unique personalities and challenges
  • Ability to stay calm and focused in stressful situations
  • Ability to promote positive behavioral intervention strategies, following program approaches in a consistent, competent manner, manage challenging behaviors that will protect themselves and the supported individuals
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work with individuals specific to this position
