Position Overview
Calian’s Emergency Management Team is currently seeking Emergency Management Professionals who are interested in performing Independent Contractor services on upcoming projects in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario or Eastern Canada
Responsibilities
  • Emergency Management Plan Reviews and Revisions/Rewrites
  • EOC Training Facilitation and Training Program Development
  • Emergency Exercises, including large-scale, functional, and tabletop
  • Hazard Impact Risk and Vulnerability Assessments
  • After Action Reviews and Reports
  • Emergency Management Organizational Reviews
Qualifications
The ideal candidate meets all of the following requirements:
  • Experience across the spectrum of Emergency Management including, but not limited to, risk assessment, mitigation programs, public education and preparedness programs, training course development and facilitation, exercise development and facilitation, simulation, planning, document and program review, facilitation, after-action reports, recovery, and response. Generally this experience will be gained from a combination of education and work-related exposure in emergency management-specific roles.
  • Business Continuity experience and professional designations, such as an ABCP or CBCP, would be considered an asset.
  • Have experience writing technical documents and reports related to a wide-range of projects within the pillars of Emergency Management.
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Have strong facilitation skills. Credentials and/or education in adult education and/or instruction would be an asset. Credentials and experience to instruct emergency management-related courses and materials (ie: ICS/IMS, EOC, etc.) in one or more provinces would be an asset.
  • Experience with plan development, training, and exercise facilitation related to Emergency Social/Support Services (ESS) including reception centres, ESS leadership, EOC/EOC integration, psychological well-being, and registration and inquiry would be an asset.
  • French language skills would be an asset.
  • Located in BC (Vancouver Island and Lower Mainland preferred), Ontario, Alberta, or Eastern Canada would be an asset.
  • AEM or CEM designation would be considered an asset.
  • Have previous experience working in an Emergency Operations Centre (EOC)/Emergency Coordination Centre (ECC), Reception Centre, or similar emergency management-related response and recovery environment.
  • Have previous experience as an emergency management professional within government would be considered an asset.
  • A degree in Emergency Management, Disaster and Emergency Studies, or similar, from a recognized post-secondary institution is required. A diploma in a related field, coupled with extensive emergency management experience may be considered equivalent.
