Electrical Engineer

Role Summary

Electrical System Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, verification, maintenance and documentation of BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) projects as well as the selection and acquisition of suitable device and commercial software.


Location

  • Cambridge, Ontario, Canada


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate storage technologies with respect to project goals, including modules, DC components, inverters, racking, BESS containers, BESS balance of plant equipment, and medium voltage systems
  • Plan electrical tests on BESS or its subsystems at test bench or on site.
  • Documentation, instrumentation, coordination of tests
  • Electrical design with single line schematics, circuit diagram design and component selection of AC and DC electrical systems
  • Technical support to the different departments involved in the advancement and implementation of projects.
  • Review and incorporate electrical studies including ampacity studies, load flow, reactive power capability, short circuit, grounding, arc flash
  • Conducting site investigations and inspections and coordinate design.
  • Write test reports and make the necessary recommendations


Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of protection relay (SEL/GE/ABB) is a strong asset
  • Knowledge with one of the engineering software (SolidWorks/AutoCAD, PSCAD/ETAP/CYME)
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) is a strong asset
  • Inter-personal communication skills, good team player
  • Situational awareness and effective problem-solving skills
  • Skills in data analysis


Education and Experience:

  • Experience with power device interfaces (LV/HV batteries, inverters, contactors, DC/DC and DC/AC converters etc.), BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) knowledge is a strong asset
  • Engineering degree (Electrical Engineering) from an accredited university
  • Experience in protection and control, power systems, AC and DC design for LV and MV systems.
