The Role

Portable Electric is currently looking for an experienced Director, Software Product Management to join our team. As our first Director, Software Product Management, you will develop and manage our software platform (e.g. Neuron OS) to meet our company goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the Construction industry. You will be responsible for the overall software product management strategy and development of future software road maps for our team to follow.

You will report into our Chief Visionary Officer and be responsible for growing a team of exceptional Product Managers. On a day to day basis, you will gather and prioritize product and customer requirements, define the product vision, and work closely with internal and external stakeholders to deliver winning software solutions.

Your Impact as the Director, Software Production Management

  • Develop and communicate a clear product strategy and vision for the organization's software products
  • Work with internal stakeholders to set pricing to meet revenue and profitability goals
  • Work with the team in an Agile environment to consistently deploy software features
  • Define the product road map and drive the end-to-end product development lifecycle
  • Build and lead the team to support the growth of the business
  • Ensure timely delivery of high-quality software products by working with all functions of the business
  • Contribute to an environment that fosters strong team dynamic through success recognition, team empowerment, active coaching, staff education, and project orientation
  • Conduct market research, engage with customers and internal stakeholders to gather feedback and insights to drive product improvement
  • Propose and manage product management budget, including engagement with external resources as required
  • Develop the core positioning and messaging for the product suite especially as Power’-as-a-Service (P’aaS)


Education and Experience Requirement

  • Experience in building a software product line
  • Operated in a high-growth, scale-up environment
  • Experience working with Fortune 500 customers; international coverage is an asset
  • Experience in filing patents (to support the PE intellectual property IP strategy)
  • 5+ years leading a cross-functional team
  • Experience in clean tech is an asset
  • Software Development experience is preferred
  • 10+ years in Product Development or Product Management for both hardware and software companies


Technical and Soft Skills You Bring

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
  • Financial, budgetary and project leadership acumen; brings both business and technical product management expertise
  • Successfully brought launched software product from ideation stage to development stage to market
  • Experience with Product Management Tools (e.g. Jira, GitHub, Aha!) and MS Office Suite
  • Managed product budget & resourcing
  • Successfully implemented product management methodologies such as Agile Methodology
  • Experience in the realm of relevant hardware and software technologies (e.g. electrification, batteries, power, control systems, firmware, software)
  • Experience in SaaS or recurring revenues such as software

Where You'll Be Located

  • This is a hybrid role with the requirement to work out of our Vancouver, BC office (3030 East Broadway) and flexibility to work from home
  • Candidates must be located in or around Vancouver and be able to reliably commute to this location to be considered for this role
