Job Description

Our growing company is currently looking to hire a Director, Major Projects to join our team, based out of our Edmonton, Calgary or Grande Prairie offices. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of construction trades and project management techniques, and is results-oriented with the ability to effectively manage competing priorities and multiple stakeholders.


As our Director, Major Projects, you will be responsible to


  • Oversee all construction activity to ensure compliance with the standards and safety procedures of the CDN Controls Health & Safety Manual.
  • Review and assign awarded projects to project managers, and ensure project managers have the tools and information required to complete the project before commencement (prints, bid package, trackers, etc.).
  • Attend estimating walkthrough, pre-award, and project kick off meetings for new projects, and subsequently facilitate internal project kickoff and project closeout meetings.
  • Assist project management teams with estimating and preparing change management documents for clients.
  • Interface with client’s key stakeholders to develop and foster business relationships, including negotiating terms of agreements and reviewing contracts.
  • Work with the project teams to ensure targets are being met, and conduct regular reviews and follow ups for progress reports and changes.
  • Work with invoicing administration team to ensure billing is being completed correctly and on time.
  • Participate in bid reviews and project strategy sessions with key stakeholders.
  • Monitor project metrics for accuracy and health
  • Conduct site inspections to ensure quality and safety aspects are being documented.
  • Oversee and direct key construction projects from start to finish and ensure they are completed on time and on budget.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Leadership team and internal stakeholders on development, implementation, and maintenance of applicable processes and procedures.
  • Lead all aspects of people management and development of direct reports


Qualifications required


  • Intermediate Microsoft Office Skills (Excel, Outlook, Project, Word).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a people leadership role.
  • Effective communication, integration, problem-solving and interpersonal skills
  • Valid class 5 license with a clean driver’s abstract.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Superior leadership qualities with a demonstrated track record of dealing successfully with internal and external customers.
  • Typically 10 or more years of Industrial Electrical & Instrumentation Project Management experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of project management principles.
  • Interprovincial Journeyman Electrician or Instrumentation Ticket or Engineering degree in an applicable field to E&I construction in the Oil & Gas Industry
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation preferred; A combination of formal education and experience will be considered.
