What You'll Do As The Community Support Worker
Provide support to individuals with varied abilities.
Perform safe lifting and transferring techniques (training provided) - if/when needed
Participate in the same events and activities as the individual(s) you are supporting (e.g.: swimming), including transportation of supported individuals.
Promote and support Individual rights and facilitate meaningful community inclusion.
Encourage learning opportunities for personal growth and development for the individual(s) you are supporting.
Encourage and create opportunities for the development of personal relationships for the individual(s) you are supporting.
Support, guide, mentor, coach and encourage individuals to develop personal goals and support them to work towards achieving their goals.
Promote Positive Behaviour Supports and effective communication.
This position requires Union membership (BCGEU)
Qualifications That Will Help Your Application
Education and/or experience working with people with diverse abilities, particularly individuals with high risk behaviours and high medical needs. Knowledge and experience in positive behavioral supports.
Must be physically able to meet the demands of the job, such as: lifting/transferring (if necessary), personal care (if necessary), participating in a variety of activities within the community.
Able to adapt and accommodate to individual needs without prejudice or influence.
Willing to be a team player and supportive co-worker.
Positive, pleasant work attitude, effective communication skills, and great work ethic.
Basic knowledge of Microsoft word, excel, power point, publisher.
Must possess a valid BC Class 4 Driver's License, for PT/FT opportunities that indicate this requirement (some Class 5 opportunities exist as well)
Emergency or Occupational First Aid Certification with CPR (or a willingness to obtain
First Aid Certification during probation period).
Able to meet all other CSCL employment criteria (e.g.: Criminal Record Check(s), Doctors Certificate of Good Health, Food Safe , Covid Vaccination Requirements, etc.)
