Job Description


WSP is currently seeking a Design Coordinator to join our Rail and Transit team, located in Western Canada. Reporting to the Manager, you will be responsible coordinating multi-disciplinary design teams and the production of preliminary and detail designs. Projects may include rail / transit and inter-modal projects, including rights-of-way (bus and light rail transit),transit stations, maintenance facilities, roadways and boulevards, parking, drainage, and infrastructure, including the integration of works by other design disciplines (structures, landscaping, electrical/ITS systems, and active transportation features).


As a member of the Transportation Systems team, you will be given opportunities to use your transferrable skills to define processes, create execution plans, and coordinate delivery of multiple projects. You will be supported by management to develop work plans and professional skills to become a strong leader in the consulting environment.

Responsibilities


RESPONSIBILITIES


Responsibilities will include design and design guidance to other team members as well as a wide range of project requirements including but not limited to:


  • Manage program and project document management system and retrieve project documentation communicated between related teams;
  • Partnering closely with Senior Project Management, Project Controls, Designers and client to develop and implement processes, work plans, Consultant Staff Lists and reports for the delivery of the project;
  • Review final reports and submissions for delivery;
  • Report preparation and drafting of correspondence including executive summaries, project descriptions etc.;
  • Other duties as assigned/required.
  • Ensure all project documentation is compliant with project formats, company standards, styles, and verification forms;
  • Receive information related to the project and distribute the information to the responsible parties;
  • Track and report on project plan progress including opportunities, completed, wins, losses etc.;
  • Research best practices, assist with developing a business case, and prepare client presentations;
  • Maintain a register of all project documents by regular updates of related logs to track all documents;
  • Tracking and monitoring schedule and labour and sub-consultant costs against all project phases and sub-phases; coordinating and driving completion of Monthly Progress Reports;
  • Coordinating, scheduling and participating in meetings with clients, external stakeholders and project team; preparing and distributing meeting materials and minutes; tracking and following-up on meeting action items as required ensuring that all actions are completed;


Qualifications


CORE QUALIFICATIONS


  • University degree or college diploma in Engineering or Architecture;
  • Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Alberta;


Technical Qualifications


  • Integrity, professionalism, and excellent written and verbal communication skills are required to handle both internal and external communications with tact and diplomacy;
  • Adaptability and flexibility including ability to manage deadline pressure, ambiguity and change;
  • Ability to work in teams and foster a spirit of cooperation while coordinating a variety of activities and personalities; strong people management and negotiating skills within a team environment;
  • A self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to take initiative;
  • Familiarity with handling drawings and technical documents and project management practices;
  • Experience civil, systems, or Information Technology (IT) design, design management, execution, or commissioning is an asset.
  • Ability to synthesize problems, and communicate point of view and analytical results;
  • Ability to think creatively, work independently and deliver high quality work with minimal supervision and with aggressive timelines;
  • Experience with financial and/or cost control, project administration and/or document control in a design or professional services environment is an asset;
  • Direct experience in Light Rail, Heavy Rail, or other complex multi-disciplinary transit projects is an asset;
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience;
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS


  • Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) would be considered as an asset;
  • Ability to adapt well to changes in direction and priorities in a project and deadline-oriented environment;
  • Proven leadership and management skills;
  • Experience in a Consulting Engineering environment is an asset.
  • Ability to work successfully in multi-disciplinary teams and across different business units in a matrix organization with little to no supervision;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including communication, presentation, leadership, and report writing proficiency with a strong desire and ability to collaborate in problem solving in an integrated team environment;
