The purpose of this role is to work with business units to drive implementation of Husky Enterprise-wide Data Governance framework and operating model.
The Data Governance Specialist will work closely with stakeholders from business units throughout Husky, the Data Team, IT partners and relevant third parties to drive and support the data governance implementation including BI Governance, cross functional collaboration and improve data quality within core systems and business processes.
The position holder will be responsible for engaging with the Data Team, systems owners and business users to ensure that data quality requirements are defined, documented and translated into effective and consistent processes that improve the quality of data.
The Data Governance Specialist will be a member of the Data Team and report to the Data Manager.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not restricted to leading and carrying out:
- Support and supervise information stewardship activities and management of data quality, retention and uses
- Facilitate the Development of data quality metrics
- Help establish best practice and ownership of the corporate taxonomy, and develop rules for their use
- Identify and develop policies and standards that need to be put in place to ensure the role can be carried out effectively and efficiently
- Drive the execution of the data governance program enterprise-wide
- Support project planning and management to ensure best practice and legal frameworks are followed with regards to data governance
- Continually assess and identify risks in line with the Husky risk management approach, ensuring they are mitigated and accounted for work within the data governance program
- Create and maintain ownership accountability of corporate data systems
- Use specialist knowledge and expertise to identify improvements through reducing data redundancy and appropriate data reuse
- Guide teams across Husky to ensure data governance policies and practices are embedded throughout the company
- Develop standards, policies, and procedures to support the creation and provide technical assurance for the on-going implementation of the data governance policy within the business
- Build and maintain a detailed audit of Husky’s core systems and information assets that are held in these systems, as well as the teams and processes that use them
- Embed and align Husky’s information security strategy with data initiatives
Qualifications
- Strong ability to extract information by questioning, active listening and interviewing
- Understanding of the principles of IT security and data protection
- Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or related field
- Strong ability to communicate embed information, business process and system wide changes to a technical and non-technical audience
- Strong ability to engage business stakeholders and evangelize Data Governance benefits throughout the organization
- Fluent in English, additional language skills considered an asset.
- A good understanding of information management practices including information lifecycle management, data modelling, master data management and carrying out business audits and requirements gathering
- A good understanding of the agile project management methodology
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – able to liaise with staff at all levels
- Ability to work on own initiative within agreed boundaries
- A post graduate information management or data governance qualification or at least three years’ experience working within an information or data governance setting
- Excellent writing skills, with the ability to create clear requirements, specifications and documentation
- Ability to work with system users to elicit and formally define their requirements
- Specialist knowledge of data governance principles and practices
- Experience in leading a data governance program
- Flexible and adaptable
- Familiarity with Metadata management practices and toolsets
