Job Description

As our lead Illegal Waste Sites (IWS) investigator, you will be a first responder to complaints of illegal waste operations throughout the western part of our East Anglia area.

You will use your experience of dealing with criminals to pursue suspects with the aim of shutting down operations and bringing offenders to justice. You will be responsible for tracking, monitoring and building intelligence on Illegal Waste Sites so will be active out in the field making enquiries and gathering evidence day to day.

You will also have the necessary inter-personal skills to build strong working relations, both inside the organisation and externally with partners such as the police and local authorities. Importantly, you will be used to dealing with suspects and be able to handle confrontation confidently.

You will also work closely with other investigators in the Enforcement Team via a Tasking and Co-ordination Group (TCG) process on large criminal enquiries so work will be varied. You may be taking witness statements one day and involved in a covert surveillance operation the next.

What’s important is you demonstrate the right behaviours to join our team. We are looking for people who:

  • Can handle confrontation
  • Are a team player
  • Can build positive relationships
  • Are organised
  • Are confident
  • Can adapt their communication style
  • Are accurate and detailed
  • Enjoy working outside

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

Experience/skills Required

Essential:

  • A full driving licence is a requirement as regular travel across East Anglia is needed.
  • Like working outside, excellent inter-personal skills and a team player who is also self-motivated.
  • IT literate with experience of using of police (or similar) case management systems and intelligence databases
  • Self-reliant and able to manage own workload with minimal supervision (after training)
  • Extensive criminal investigation experience and knowledge of the legislation that underpins criminal investigatory procedures.

You must also pass security vetting to Non-Police Personnel Vetting (NPPV) level 2 (full) – after appointment.

You will be willing to undertake specialist/or further training when necessary.
