Job Description

Cost Analyst

Contract

  • Monthly analysis and submission of budget forecast.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office applications and EcoSys is an asset
  • Change management coordination
  • Updates project forecast with input from project teams and contractors
  • Monitor cost analysis, controls, and reconciliation for the assigned projects
  • Development of monthly cost report and cost forecast
  • Performs cost analysis, controls and monitoring, highlights risk areas, validate performance during progress updates and communicates issues to the Project Controls Lead in order to minimize project impacts
  • Skills and Knowledge:Must have completed a University Degree or College Diploma in Business Administration, Accounting, Economics, or related discipline, or the equivalent combined with 5 years of work-related experience
  • Perform other duties as required by the role and advised by PCL/Manager.
  • Prepare Board reports and supporting documentation for Project Approvals and Contract Awards
  • Recommend and implement improvement(s) to processes and tools where appropriate.
  • Analyze financial performance; identify budget variances, significant risks and recommend corrective actions.
  • Monitor contractual reliabilities; and is responsible for the design and maintenance of project control databases, spreadsheets, and other control systems to support these functions
  • Ensure costs are tracked properly with appropriate use of WBS and CBS coding
  • Excellent judgement, well-developed analytical, problem solving, verbal communications and report writing skills
  • Reviews projects changes for cost impact and provide feedback to project management staff.
  • Contribute to project review meetings, as necessary, to monitor progress, identify problems, and initiate corrective actions.
  • Act as a highly technical resource to help staff work effectively and solve problems related to budget performance, material requests, contract management, capital projects etc.
  • Prepares cost reports, graphs and cost performance reports for project review
  • Participate in the various phases of the contracts including the development of terms and conditions, negotiations of contracts, and warranty administration
  • Must have solid understanding of core project control concepts (cost management, earned value management, cost accounting), AACE or PMI principles
  • Must have good understanding of multi-discipline engineering and construction projects
  • Performs cost accounting duties which include invoice processing and accruals
  • Provide trainings, workshops and support team members as advised by leads/managers.
  • Administration and maintenance of Ecosys
  • Consolidation and development of month end cost and progress reporting
  • Interacts with Contractors to review and analyze cost and forecasts
  • Knowledge of project management methods and practices, administration principles, methods, and procedures
  • Setting of original budget and estimate recast
  • Set up and administration of monthly incurred cost flow
  • Assists in the creation of cost-flows, baselining of project costs and forecasts with support from Project Management Team
