About The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager of Volunteer Services, this role is responsible for the development and maintenance of the programs and services component within the Palliative and Cancer Care programs including, but not limited to the Sunshine Room, Palliative Care Unit and Ambulatory Oncology Clinics. This job includes recruitment, screening, training, orienting of new volunteers, developing and maintaining specific volunteer roles throughout the program and providing recognition and ongoing feedback to volunteers. The job assumes other responsibilities, notably coordinating the Volunteer Training Program. The job is also responsible for liaising and working with other managers of palliative care volunteers locally and throughout the province. As part of the Cancer Care team, the coordinator of volunteers sits on the numerous committees and assumes other responsibilities on the team.
The coordinator is responsible for exploring new opportunities to enhance the role of volunteers in the patient experience. By working with operational managers, the coordinator will develop, implement and sustain volunteer roles across the Cancer Care Portfolio. The coordinator will link with community partners to support and enhance the role of volunteers with the goal of improving the patient/family/caregiver experience.

$27.02 - $30.62 Hourly

- Effective organizational and communication skills
- Minimum one year relevant experience
- Volunteer management an asset
- Competencies in other languages an asset; French preferred
- Demonstrated time management and organizational skills
- Project development and implementation experience an asset
- Demonstrated Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint), email and internet
- Successful completion of a Social Science degree
- Ability to function independently and as part of a team and be able to establish priorities
- Knowledge of Palliative Care and Cancer Care an asset
- Experience and knowledge of community development principles of community development, principles of community health, education theory and practice group dynamics preferred
- Effective interpersonal, communication and teaching skills
