Job Description
Coating & Painting Inspector with NACE level II certification in Ontario & Alberta region. Minimum 1-2 inspector in each province.

Responsible for monitoring the coating & painting of different components to ensure compliance with codes, client specifications and applicable standards according to SGS procedures.
Inspector will perform various tasks related to the monitoring of coating processes, such as progress reports, witness sandblasting, priming, final coating, pre-shipment, and loading inspections on a short-, medium-, and long-term basis.
Scope
  • Verify actual work progress;
  • Prepare clear and concise reports within the prescribed time frames (usually 24 hours after completion);
  • Ensure that all equipment necessary is in proper working condition and that the calibration is still valid;
  • Perform tasks specified by his/her supervisor and/or department coordinator;
  • Consult with clients and/or suppliers to obtain information required for carrying out the work;
  • Identify and analyse customer needs;
  • Ensure all non-conformance reports are closed prior to issuing delivery authorisation
  • Review purchase orders intended for suppliers;
  • Prepare delivery authorisation and forward them to manufacturer/client after all non conforming items are solved.
  • Review coating/painting reports;
  • Complete the necessary quality forms related to monitoring or inspection work;
  • Coordinate actions with the client and/or supplier with regards to the manufacturer’s project schedule;
  • Verify coating with client specification & project requirements;
  • Plan and prepare work to be completed onsite at the client’s location (documents, equipment);
  • Participate in factory meetings when Coating / Painting quality is on the agenda;
  • Notify the client should non-conformance be identified at a work site;
  • Communicate with the client when requested by the manager and/or supervisor;
  • Ensure that onsite work completed at the client’s location is consistent with the mandate, is completed on time and is conducted in a professional manner with meticulous attention to detail in order to provide excellent service;
  • Review coating quality plans provided by manufacturers and their subcontractors;
  • Ensure that suppliers issue a non-conformance report and send it to the client if non-conformance is identified;
  • Perform inspections according to the criteria specified in the quote;
  • Verify the implementation of quality plans and applicable procedures;
  • Prepare non-conformance reports and forward them to the manufacturer when non-conformance is identified;
  • Review technical specifications;
Requirements
  • W178.2 Welding Inspector Level II or III certified (Preferable)
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or metallurgy, or a college degree combined with relevant experience in coating inspection will be considered as equivalent;
  • Experience : Five (5) to ten (10) years of Coating / Painting Quality assurance supervisory experience in a factory including performing coating inspections;
  • NACE Level II / III
  • API 510 certified (Preferable)
The following skills are considered as important assets: Certified as a NACE coating inspector, Qualified in non-destructive testing, welding inspection certification (CWB Level II) ASME qualified (National Board, Authorized Inspection, Authorized Inspector Supervisor) and/or API qualified (510 - Pressure Vessels Inspector, 570 - Piping inspector or 936 - Refractory Inspector).
