Job Description
CHILD AND FAMILY CLINICIAN - TRAUMA AND ABUSE TREATMENT PROGRAM (TATP)


Hybrid


Full Time (37.5 hours/week)


EveryMind (formerly Peel Children's Centre/Nexus Youth Services) is looking for highly skilled, experienced, and enthusiastic mental health professionals to work with various programs and services to provide a continuum of mental health interventions to children/youth and their families.


EveryMind is an accredited children’s mental health centre that provides a continuum of high quality mental health services for children, youth, and their families who are experiencing social, emotional and/or behavioural challenges.


Summary of Function


Under the direction of the Supervisor, Clinical Services, the Child and Family Clinician (TATP) provide trauma-specific assessment and treatment services to children/youth who have been impacted by trauma or abuse and/or engaged in sexually problematic behaviour(s).


Services are delivered in keeping with professional standards and the agency’s Mission Statement, Values, Clinical Philosophies, accreditation standards, annual Service Plan, and policies and procedures. The Child and Family Clinician is an active member of a multidisciplinary team that provides a range of clinical services in collaboration with clients, families/caregivers, and community resources. Services may be provided virtually, in office, or home/community settings as dictated by the client and program needs.


Salary - 5-step range of $66,288 - $77, 547 over 5 years


Please note that hiring salaries are commensurate with experience and generally start at the beginning of the range.

Job Responsibilities:


The incumbent will:


  • Maintain comprehensive case records and data for all clients in accordance with the organizations’ standards and timelines.
  • Demonstrate a passion for working with children and families and possess working knowledge of social service, educational, and employment systems and resources within Peel.
  • Incorporate a reflexive approach to practice that acknowledges culture, diversity, and intersectionality of oppression within the clinical relationship.
  • Employ a variety of systemic and evidence informed treatment approaches utilizing specific strategies to enhance parent/family and child/youth interactions and functioning at home, in school, and in the community.
  • Identify risk and develop safety/crisis plans with children, youth, and families using a holistic, strength-based, client-centred approach that aims to reduce unsafe situations, and the likelihood of harm to children, youth, and their families.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate treatment plans according to individual client and family/caregiver needs, goals, and strengths.
  • Apply sound and applied knowledge of the development of post-traumatic stress symptoms and a thorough understanding of the impact of trauma on children, youth, and their families.
  • Apply Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT) fully in client treatment as an evidence-based modality.
  • Administer and interpret a variety of assessment tools such as PTSD UCLA Index, Strengths & Difficulties Questionnaire, and J-SOAP to inform trauma-specific assessments and monitoring of treatment goals and outcomes.
  • Provide trauma-specific assessment and treatment services to children/youth who have been impacted by trauma or abuse, and/or engaged in sexually problematic behaviour(s).
  • Facilitate a group within group services as required.
  • Provide transitional support and discharge planning to clients exiting service to ensure the sustainability of treatment gains.
  • Participate as an active member of a multidisciplinary team in, clinical, program, and organizational meetings.
  • Provide virtual and telephone treatment interventions as needed.


Skills And Qualifications


  • Ability to work flexible hours, including 2 evenings a week up to 8 pm, according to client and program needs.
  • Proven ability to build relationships of trust in a timely manner with a variety of clients and professionals in numerous settings.
  • Proven ability to be self-motivated and comfortable working in a variety of settings i.e. school, home, community.
  • Be a member in good standing of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.
  • Group facilitation experience is an asset.
  • Strong technology skills and experience with client care information systems and Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, and comfortable with the use of apps.
  • A Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check and Pre-Employment Medical screening (including TB test, MMR, TD, Polio, Covid-19 Vaccination), is required.
  • Embraces diversity and demonstrated cultural awareness with critical self-awareness and understanding of engagement with diverse cultures.
  • Strong clinical assessment and treatment skills with a commitment to family engagement and client-centered service utilizing a strength-based approach.
  • Have a valid Ontario Driver’s license (Full G Class), use of a vehicle with a comfort in driving throughout the Peel region (and surrounding areas).
  • Utilize high levels of oral and written communication skills, time management, and critical thinking skills with a strong understanding of role boundaries. Proficiency in languages in addition to English is an asset.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation for children/youth services.
  • Possess exceptional interpersonal, team, and conflict resolution skills with an ability to collaborate effectively with internal/external stakeholders, clients, and their families.
  • Possess a Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counselling Psychology or health related field with a minimum of three years experience in direct service to children and families OR Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work/ health related field with a minimum of 5 years experience.
