Reporting to the Buyer, the Category Assistant position will play an integral role in delivering exceptional value, quality, and an exciting merchandise mix to Hiring Company's customers. While supporting every aspect of the buying life cycle, from product development to marketing, the Category Assistant will have the opportunity to buy a category within Home Fashions portfolio.

Category Assistant: Home, Role Specific Accountabilities

• Conduct effective communications with the stores to provide relevant information needed to assist with their purchasing decisions and quantification
• Conduct and complete product related activities to ensure adherence to safety, quality, and regulatory standards
• Recommend and implement assortment plans in accordance with category and vendor strategies to deliver planned sales, gross margin, and inventory turns
• Deliver omni-channel assortment to provide a holistic customer experience
• Produce and complete sku and assortment related information as per the timelines detailed in the buying calendar to minimize disruptions in the product lifecycle
• Provide information for marketing activities for all commodities to ensure marketing objectives are accurately met
• Drive customer excitement by initiating and completing preseason and in-season purchases based on OTB needs, in accordance with approved assortment plans

Category Assistant: Home, Knowledge & Skills

Requirements

• Proven track record of meeting job objectives
• Keen sense of style and trends. Passion for retail and customer service
• Able to communicate effectively and influence positively without authority
• Minimum 2-3 years Merchandising or Planning experience
• Post-secondary degree/certificate preferred or equivalent industry experience
• Entrepreneurial spirit, collaborative, creative problem solver with a strong sense of initiative. Able to manage varied work and priorities.
• Skilled in using Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Assets

• Business and financial acumen an asset
• Familiarity with a franchise model
• Proficiency in English and French
• Understanding of Omni-Channel retail
• JDA & BI experience
• Buying/Category management and/or Merchandise planning experience an asset

Travel Requirements

• Some domestic travel required.
