Sea Cider is hiring a part timeBanquet Captain! Do you love the idea of playing a leadership role hosting weddings and other special events on an agri-chique farm that crafts award-winning cider? Do you have a knack for friendly customer service, supervising a team, attention to detail and staying organized? Then we’d love to hear from you!
OurBanquet Captainsare hands-on team leaders who ensure that clients, guests, vendors and staff all have positive event experiences. The role is primarily focused on finalizing event details in the weeks leading up to the event and then executing the event. On event day, responsibilities include taking over the “duty of care” for the Event Client, overseeing event set up, supervising team members, serving guests, liaising with caterers and other vendors, leading event take down, troubleshooting “day of” issues, and completing post-event documentation. In addition, our Banquet Captains assist with projects, help manage event inventory and restocking, prepare signage, keep supply areas tidy, and play an important role training event team members.
Thework week scheduleis part time and hours varies, with shifts such as10am to 6pm, 1pm to 9pm or 3pm to 11pm, depending on the event schedule. Days off are generally mid-week. The work week includes up to an hour per event working remotely to review information and phone in to meetings.Thetotal target compensation is $26 per hour,composed of anhourly wage $18.25+ 4% vacation pay + share of pooled gratuities.

About You
You excel at team leadership, customer service, staying organized and are attentive to detail. As a positive people person, you have an impressive track record in event execution, from weddings to corporate mixers.In addition you have:
- Communication skills, both written and oral: a gift for diplomacy, coupled with an ability to ensure that Sea Cider’s event policies are understood and followed by everyone at events
- Health & Safety: follow our Communicable Disease & COVID Safety plan, including COVID vaccination
- Physical requirements: The physical strength to safely and manually carry cases of cider, stacks of chairs and dish racks, and the physical stamina to work on your feet for hours at a time. Willingness to work outside, rain or shine.
- Continuous Improvement: A desire to work for a business that is growing and seeking to continually improve.
- Industry experience:at least 3 years of experience working at restaurants or event venues – required
- People management: an aptitude for leadership and at least one year of experience supervising service teams – required. Demonstrated success in teamwork and facilitating team collaboration – required. Experience as a trainer – an asset
- Work week flexibility: Able to work flexible hours – e.g. weekend and evening hosting events, morning rehearsals meeting with client, team meetings when scheduled.
- Personal aptitude: a high degree of professionalism, organizational skills, and personal accountability for building positive relationships. Curiosity, great listening skills and an openness to feedback. A willingness to “roll up your sleeves” to get the job done.
- Computer skills:proficiency in word processing, basic spreadsheets, point of sale systems – required. An eagerness to learn event software applications and develop other computer skills – required.
- Education:High school completion – required. Serving It Right and Food Safe certification – required. Post secondary diploma or certificate in event-related field – preferred.
