Job Description
FULL-TIME PERMANENT POSITION (LEVEL 6) – 35 HOURS PER WEEK


Covenant House helps youth ignite their potential and reclaim their lives. As Canada’s largest agency serving youth who are homeless, trafficked or at risk, we offer the widest range of services to hundreds of young people every day. More than a place to stay, we provide 24/7 crisis shelter and transitional housing on-site and in the community, along with comprehensive services including education, counselling, health care, employment assistance, job training and after-care. Since 1982, Covenant House has supported more than 100,000 young people. We are excited to grow our Prevention and Awareness team!


We are seeking a self-directed, engaging individual with excellent presentation and group facilitation skills to support our school-based and hospitality sector awareness and prevention initiatives. The ideal candidate is a confident public speaker who can easily adapt their presentation styles for diverse audiences. We deliver awareness and education programs about youth homelessness and sex-trafficking prevention for students within the GTA. We also provide sex trafficking intervention training to industry sectors most likely to come in to contact with sex trafficking victims.


Purpose of the position: To provide consistent and engaging brand-focused in-person and virtual awareness and prevention presentations to student in grades 6 to 12, and hotel industry groups. The purpose of these presentations is to build awareness of youth homelessness and trafficking to help keep youth safe and prevent these activities from occurring in the first place. This position reports directly to the Awareness and Prevention Supervisor in order to maximize our grassroots training in all sectors.


SCHOOL-BASED AWARENESS AND PREVENTION


Covenant House school presentations reach, on average, over 30,000 students in grades 6 to 12 a year. Presentations are delivered virtually or in-person and teach the next generation about homelessness and sex trafficking. Our facilitators can help teachers and students recognize and understand the issues and learn where they can access support.


INDUSTRY PREVENTION TRAINING


Our Sex Trafficking Intervention Training equips relevant industry staff with the information and skills necessary to increase safety for staff and guests, recognize warning signs, and respond accordingly. With the right information and training, industry staff can play a crucial role in preventing, recognizing and reporting incidents of sex trafficking.


The successful applicant will be a dynamic individual who can engage youth and adults.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Managing a flexible 35-hr work week, including early mornings, some evenings/weekends to accommodate presentations
  • Incorporating a variety of presentation methods, instructional techniques and formats to engage diverse audiences and accommodate different learning styles
  • Keeping abreast of industry news, trends, insights and best practices
  • Completing reports, recording statistics, and other administrative tasks as required
  • Assisting with program marketing including mailing, cold-calling, and other duties as required
  • Set-up, breakdown and transportation of audio-visual equipment and supplies
  • Delivering up to four presentations per day during busy periods
  • Documenting disclosures of abuse and reporting them to the appropriate child welfare agency and Supervisor
  • Administering participant surveys, entering and compiling data, preparing reports and sharing achievements, and other relevant information for internal and external audiences
  • Assisting with developing and maintaining annual presentation/training calendar and tracking system
  • Ensuring that donations are managed as per policies and that donors are thanked and stewarded
  • Promoting the need for donations to support prevention program and working with Events Team to provide them with prospects
  • Stewarding relationships with schools and industry contacts
  • Cultivating prospects and support for Covenant House Toronto, including departmental collaboration
  • Delivering consistent, engaging 75–90 minute scripted, in-person and virtual presentations to student or industry groups as large as 1,000+, while representing CHT mission and values to program participants
  • Analyzing and evaluating effectiveness of training program and identifying gaps and opportunities to enhance program content, delivery, and audience engagement
  • Penetrating networks and building new prospects through cold calls, emails, and networking
  • Contributing to the ongoing development and updating of program content and materials to ensure they are current, relevant, resonate with diverse audiences, and align with school board/industry objectives


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Police Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge, Zoom, Google Meet and/or Microsoft Teams are assets
  • Ability to commit to a hybrid work model – on-site office at Covenant House Toronto, from home office, and at schools or training sites
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with youth
  • A University degree or College diploma in Education, Social Services, or related discipline
  • Knowledge of issues affecting street-involved youth an asset
  • Must be fully vaccinated – two shots (minimum)
  • Knowledge of sex trafficking an asset
  • Minimum of two years of experience in public speaking/stage delivering creative and dynamic presentations or education/training
  • Ability to move/lift/carry two 50-lb wheeled bags (100 lbs. total) containing audio-visual equipment and supplies
  • Proficiency with software or apps including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Flexibility to travel daily through Toronto and GTA with regular access to a reliable vehicle and business travel insurance coverage

  • Strong public speaking, communications, and group facilitation skills with demonstrated ability to engage a diverse range of audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to network and develop business networks and plans to build program scale
  • Self-motivated, self-directed, able to work independently and manage/meet deadlines and targets
  • Strong oral and written skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent administrative, organizational and time management skills, and ability to manage multiple competing priorities
  • Enthusiastic team player and ability to learn quickly
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to youth in culturally diverse communities
