Working as part of a cross functional team, you deliver the RDQ activities required to complete Packaging Design and Packaging Deployment for Innovation/Growth projects and productivity projects across multiple geographies with an emphasis on delivering the desired consumer experience.


How You Will Contribute


With the support and guidance of a manager, you will organize and execute projects in line with RDQ, marketing and manufacturing requirements, effectively communicating status and risks. You will plan and conduct activities to generate appropriate packaging information, using sampling and supplier management, and pilot plant and factory trials in accordance with good manufacturing practice and HACCP requirements. In this role, you will plan and conduct process development activities (e.g. packaging design and specifications, packaging scale up, commissioning etc.) and help with planning and the effective use of resources, including the use of external agencies. You will also create technical reports, which will require your skills in analysis and interpretation of results that will lead to conclusions and recommendations; create and maintain accurate packaging specifications; and create intellectual property to drive our competitive advantage.

What you need to know about this position:


This is a Packaging Development RD&Q position in the NA Confection Category responsible for delivering against the packaging innovation, margin enhancement and quality agenda. The candidate will have the opportunity to lead and execute packaging development initiatives from concept to commercialization, working closely with the packaging team, operations, procurement, business teams and other internal and external partners. The individual must possess technical skills and the ability to handle multiple projects at the same time. The candidate must demonstrate leadership and the ability to be a strong team player representing our technical organization.


What extra ingredients you will bring:


  • Conduct and coordinate functional testing including plant trials, lab testing, shelf life studies and material vendor evaluations, including analysis of data, results and follow up recommendations and action plans.
  • Technical project leader on cross-functional project teams managing the technical timeline, providing timely communication, outlining issues, risks and contingency plans on multiple projects.
  • Properly document and communicate project progress and findings to all key stakeholders.
  • Develops written packaging specifications and completes thorough plant trial reports. Ensure all Packaging Quality expectations are delivered.
  • Develop cooperative working relationships with procurement, cross-functional teams, the manufacturing plants (internal & external) as well as external packaging material vendors
  • Generates creative ideas, innovations and approaches to technical programs
  • Responsible for identifying, defining and solving technical packaging challenges
  • Lead development and commercialization of productivity packaging initiatives, working closely with cross-functional partners (i.e. operations, procurement, business teams, packaging team, and functional partners).


Understanding of the financial impact of packaging programs and the linkage of packaging to business strategies.

Assumes leadership role on packaging productivity driven programs.


Works closely with other members of the Global or Regional RD&Q Team. Maintains and continually enhances cross-functional relations as well as external relations with vendors and professional associations.


FUNCTIONAL/TECHNICAL EXPERTISE:


  • Experience working in a Research, Development and Quality function.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Planning and project management abilities.
  • Experience in package development processes.
  • Experience managing projects within a plant environment (Product Development, Process Technology, New Product Commercialization, etc.).
  • Experience in development, trials and commercialization of packaging initiatives.


COMPETENCIES/ABILITIES:


  • Product Packaging interactions: acquire/apply knowledge of product, process, and package interactions along with modes of failure to make material recommendations and narrow down variables during development process.
  • Executional excellence, personal leadership, time management and problem solving competencies.
  • Packaging Evaluation: acquire/apply knowledge of test methodologies for packaging materials specification development. Identify gaps within internal testing capabilities. Acquire/apply knowledge to understand critical criteria for in plant testing and defect level. Be able to recommend additional critical parameters as well as be able to outline procedures and work with quality teams.
  • Packaging Materials: acquire/apply technical material knowledge to current projects; provide technical based solutions.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; able to effectively communicate to all levels within the organization.
  • Packaging Equipment: acquire/apply knowledge of equipment, operation, capacities, limitations, and potential mechanical shortfalls.
  • Graphics: acquire/apply knowledge around the printing process to determine how it affects package performance. Effectively apply to business issues and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Ability to influence others and get results through working with a diverse team.
  • Travel up to 25%.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage complexity.


Work schedule: Monday to Friday Hybrid based on business needs.
