Job Description
POSITION: ASSISTANT DIRECTOR - SPECIAL EDUCATION


DEPARTMENT: COMPLEMENTARY AND COMPASSIONATE SERVICES


SALARY: FROM $95,429 TO $127,235 DEPENDING ON EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Kativik Ilisarniliriniq (KI) is a school board offering educational services in the 14 communities of Nunavik.


Function & Duties


Under the supervision of the Director of Complementary and Compassionate Services, the Assistant Director evaluates and responds to the needs of the schools. In addition, this position includes the following responsibilities:


  • Help the schools develop, implement and evaluate intervention and action plans with the personnel;
  • Assist in the creation, revision and implementation of the Health and Wellness curriculum;
  • Coordinate, supervise and evaluate the work of support staff in his department (regional pedagogical counsellors in Inuktitut, French and English, language pathologist, regional special education technician, psychologist).
  • Address other tasks as requested by his immediate supervisor.
  • Coordinate external contracts/requests for services in the area of special education;
  • Coordinate training and development of internal school support team relating to all aspects of special education files with direct collaboration of the Assistant-Director of Psychosocial Services and Support;
  • Coordinate the allocation of resources in special education for each community;


Qualifications


  • An undergraduate degree in a relevant field certifying a minimum three-year university program or hold a senior or manager position;
  • Six (6) years of relevant experience.


The Board may, at its discretion, waive any or all of the afore-mentioned qualification requirements if it finds a suitable candidate who is a beneficiary of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement and who accepts, as a condition of employment, to follow a training plan determined by the Board


Requirements


  • Fluency in two (2) of the three (3) official languages of KI (Inuktitut, English and French);
  • Knowledge of the Régime Pédagogique of the French and English Quebec curriculums.
  • Experience in Aboriginal education systems;
  • Must be prepared for frequent travels throughout Nunavik communities;
  • A permanent teaching diploma issued by the ministre de l'Éducation, des Loisirs et du Sport du Québec (MELS);


Classification / Salary / Benefits


Class 00-09* as per the working conditions of KI’s managers: from $95,429 to $127,235 annually depending on qualifications and experience. All benefits are prorated based on the percentage of the task.
