The opportunity


We are currently looking for an Assessment Lead to work as a key team member in our Assessment Services Department. You will be responsible for the employer registration process, including oversight of the employer registration and billing systems, ensuring accuracy and completeness of employer records and determining coverage requirements under the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Act (the Act) in a fair and consistent manner.


You will be accountable for the provision of analytical expertise and operational support relating to the assessment function. The Assessment Services Department ensures employers are assessed and billed under the Act and that they comply with annual reporting requirements. As the functional lead of a team of Employer Services Advisors, this role helps to ensure that all tasks are performed effectively and efficiently and in a cost-effective manner, critical to maintaining the integrity of the WorkplaceNL injury fund.


More About The Role


Some additional responsibilities of the Assessment Lead include:


  • Monitors the performance of Employer Services Advisors and reports to the Manager on departmental objectives and goals.
  • Provides approval, information and functional direction to team of Employer Services Advisors.
  • Provides explanations/interpretations of policy/procedure to external stakeholders, which may include the development and delivery of formal presentations or information sessions to a wide variety of WorkplaceNL stakeholders.
  • Recommends, develops and maintains internal control procedures relating to assessment business processes.
  • Provides guidance to employees and makes independent decisions on complex or exceptional matters (e.g., extension of coverage, employer reporting requirements, independent operator determinations, inter-jurisdictional trucking agreement, penalty provisions of the Act, registration issues, etc.).
  • Identifies areas requiring training and assists in the development of training for the Assessment Services Department, provides on-the-job training or conducts other training as required, including with other internal departments.


Ideal Qualifications


  • Knowledge of the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Act/Regulations, Policies and Procedures, and understanding of the concepts and principles of workers' compensation and how they apply in varying situations.
  • Candidate should have at least three years' relevant experience in accounting/auditing field with experience in financial and statistical analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to show initiative and independent judgment, in addition to having well-developed interpersonal, written and oral communication, organizational and strong analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Bachelor of commerce degree with a concentration in accounting; supplemental professional accounting designation considered an asset.
  • Formal training and a demonstrated ability to use various personal and mainframe computer systems and applications.


Experience And An Educational Equivalency May Be Considered.
