Job Description

Join our Area Incident Team to be part of preparing for and responding to flooding and environmental incidents, protecting communities and the environment.

The vacancy is an administrative role. You’ll be a core member of the East Anglia Area Incident Team working with colleagues from other teams and incident role holders. You could also work with many partner organisations.

You’ll be involved with:

Creating standby rosters

Preparing and collating information, liaising with other teams, writing up details.

Initial incident response planning and logistics.

Managing and maintaining specialist incident management systems, incident rooms and equipment to ensure a state of readiness.

New ways of working projects.

Assist delivery of training and exercising, contributing to production of materials, and facilitation of sessions.

Building relationships throughout the area, recognising customers’ needs and providing the service required.

We are a category 1 responder for a range of incident types. You’ll provide assistance to duty officers by becoming skilled in our incident management processes, acquiring the position of system(s) super user. You will be a proactive member of user networks and a go to person for advice and help.

We will train you to become a Logistics Officer, part of the team’s office hours incident response role. This role undertakes rostering, coordinating the movement of people and equipment across the area and reporting to the on-duty team. You’ll be aiding the health, safety, and wellbeing of responding staff.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity assistance during an incident. This may attract an additional payment. Full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to aid you with your incident role.

Experience/skills Required

It would be helpful, but not essential, to be:

Organised, with attention to detail.

Able to plan, track, gather and maintain data/information to ensure tasks are completed on time and to a high standard.

Competent computer and data skills, with the ability to pick up new processes and systems. We use Microsoft applications such as MS Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel and SharePoint. Training will be provided.

Committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and to addressing the climate and ecological emergency through your work

Able to exercise judgement in prioritisation and highlight potential issues

Adaptable to changing priorities, on occasion at short notice due to events.

Able to communicate with a variety of audiences to explain how systems work and be a go to person for help.

Self-motivated, working as part of a team and individually.

Interested in incident management and have knowledge of incident debriefs.
