Position Highlights


Work closely with the Canadian Corporate Investment Banking Energy team to manage client relationships across a complex portfolio of public and private companies. Provide ongoing credit management including: completion of credit presentations, identifying lending and cross-sell opportunities, preparing client presentations and pitches, structuring loan transactions, reviewing documentation, monitoring compliance and industry trends.


What You'll Do


  • Create an environment in which team pursues effective and efficient operations of respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk
  • Analyst position is a learning role, and requires the individual to be self motivated and keen on learning the broad variety of skills required to succeed in the role
  • Assist with management of loan portfolio including: structuring and executing new transactions, credit presentations for annual reviews, coordination of account management with team members and Global Risk Management, amendments to existing credit facilities
  • Champions a high performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment to attract, retain, develop and motivate team and other Bank colleagues by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours
  • Apply product and capital markets knowledge to help clients achieve financial objectives
  • Monitor and follow for client compliance reporting requirements
  • Legal dimension includes structuring credit deals to manage risk accordingly (including review of credit agreements and ancillary legal documents)
  • Work with senior corporate banking team to pursue business opportunities with clients; market a range of credit and non-lending products and services to corporate and/or institutional clients
  • Assist with client relationships across a complex portfolio of public and private energy producers, midstreamers and diversified clients; deliver solutions across suite of products and services offered by GBM and rest of Bank
  • Ensure credit files, agreements and security documents are complete and up to date
  • Demonstrate clear understanding of the Bank's credit policies and procedures ensuring the portfolio is managed within appropriate parameters and within regulatory requirements
  • Assist with managing loan portfolio to achieve financial and profitability targets while managing industry portfolio risk and loan losses
  • Ensure credit presentations follow Bank standards, and are accurate, concise and complete
  • Perform due diligence on transactions that vary in complexity


What You'll Bring


  • 1+ years of corporate or commercial banking experience
  • High professional standards including a strong sense of personal integrity and teamwork
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, MBA / CFA preferred
  • Understanding of the Bank's credit policies and procedures ensuring the portfolio is managed within appropriate parameters and within regulatory requirements
  • Clear communication with clients and internal/external contacts
  • 1+ years of energy lending experience preferred
  • High level of attention to detail, ability to excel under pressure and perform effectively in a team setting
  • High level of energy, willingness to work long hours and a keen desire to learn new concepts
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly adapt to new situations
  • Knowledge and understanding of capital markets and corporate lending space in Canada with responsibilities for transactions abroad (U.S., Europe, Asia)
  • Excellent command of Microsoft Suite, with an emphasis on Word and PowerPoint
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high standard of work
  • Strong quantitative skills focused on financial analysis and accounting
  • Independent thinker with proven ability to succeed
