Position Title: Advisor, Human Rights, Equity & Inclusion
Status: Full-time Administration
Hours: 37.5 hours per week

What You Will Do
The successful candidate is a passionate subject matter expert and thought leader who will push the organization to move forward in its commitment to supporting a culture where everyone feels represented and valued and has equal opportunity to learn, grow and contribute their best.
Reporting to the Manager, Human Rights, Equity & Inclusion, you will be responsible for addressing discrimination and harassment complaints and conducting investigations, workplace assessments, mediations and other forms of alternative dispute resolution.
You will also develop tools and resources to support and enhance timely, effective and responsive complaint resolution processes. You’ll be providing input, advance, and proactive strategies to address systemic human rights issues. In applying your knowledge and understanding of the various legislative requirements, your skills in undertaking investigations, and applying conflict resolution principles, you will be responsible for assessing human rights and workplace harassment complaints and determining the most appropriate course of action to ensure all complaints are addressed appropriately.
Collecting and maintaining complaints-related data, reviewing leading practices and case law, identifying potential risks, systemic issues and barriers, and recommending strategies to support human rights, equity & inclusion at Humber for students, faculty and staff.
Key Responsibilities Include
  • Provide early intervention, problem-solving and referrals using a variety of alternative dispute-resolution mechanisms
  • Conduct research on complaint-specific issues
  • Participate in workplace assessments and support restoration processes.
  • Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of departmental outreach initiatives, communication strategies, promotional materials, educational programming and training
  • Strong analytical skills; able to exercise sound judgement
  • Maintain appropriate complaint management records
  • Participate in policy development and review
  • Ensure that the investigation process is aligned with all Humber’s internal policies: Humber’s Human Rights, Sexual Assault, Gender Diversity and AODA
  • Provides consultation to students, faculty, staff and other members of the Humber community on human rights and harassment-related concerns
  • Maintain effective and ongoing communication with the Manager to ensure that complaints resolution management is consistent and accountable
  • Address human rights and harassment concerns through informal enquiries, problem-solving, mediation and formal investigation
  • Perform other duties related to the role as assigned.
  • Create and execute investigation plans in a timely and fair manner

What you bring to the role:
  • Master’s Degree or equivalent in the Social Sciences
  • Alternative Dispute Resolution and/or Conflict Management Certificate
  • Investigation certification or equivalent experience
Experience And Qualifications
  • Experience developing tools and resources to support the implementation of human rights, equity & inclusion procedures and practices.
  • Demonstrated experience handling contentious and confidential information with sensitivity, good judgment and discretion
  • Strong organizational, administrative and case management skills to independently handle a complaints caseload and deliver service excellence.
  • Strong understanding and application of human rights policies and practices, mediation and investigation techniques
  • Understanding of legislative requirements and trends impacting in the post-secondary sector
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action, the Ontario Human Rights Code, the AODA, the Occupational Health & Safety Act, the Employment Equity Act, Antiracist Act, and other relevant human rights legislation
  • Effective verbal communication and strong presentation, facilitation and interpersonal skills
  • Minimum five years of experience investigating and resolving human rights complaints, using trauma-informed and anti-discrimination principles and practices, as well as conflict resolution skills (alternative dispute resolution/mediation)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess complex complex human rights and workplace harassment complaints
  • Experience conducting workplace assessments
  • An equivalent combination of educational, professional and lived experiences will also be considered
  • Strong critical analysis in addressing complex issues within an intersectional framework
