Job Overview


The Diversity, Inclusion, Belonging and Equity (DIBE) Lead is responsible for developing and implementing transformational, organizational-wide strategies, policies, practices and programs to support and advance the organization's DIBE Roadmap. This plan will have an impact on all aspects of the organization and will include action plans across all departments.


The DIBE Lead will also play the roles of subject matter expert, teacher, program developer, facilitator, project manager and implementer. Reporting directly to the CEO, the DIBE Lead will be an individual contributor who works closely with all departments to create and cultivate a culture of inclusion. The DIBE Lead will also work closely with the EVP, People, Finance and Operations and other members of the Executive Leadership team on the progress of departmental action plans. The DIBE Lead will collaborate with HR and Communications as well as external consultants to operationalize workplace DIBE programs and launch education series for employees, and volunteers.


What You’ll Be Doing


  • Supports the CEO and Executive Leadership Team in engaging and reporting to the Canadian Cancer Society’s Board of Directors and to the public on DIBE issues.
  • Oversees the creation of DIBE content for publication including on website and social media.
  • Remains current on best practices and innovation in all areas related to DIBE.
  • Works with the mission, fundraising and operations teams to ensure that all CCS programs and services are delivered in an inclusive, equitable manner that benefit the entire Canadian cancer community.
  • Works with the Research teams to deliver the Research Inclusive Excellence Action Plan to better integrate justice, equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility across CCS research programs.
  • Assists in or is informed of all internal reviews, surveys or emerging issues pertaining to DIBE.
  • Collaborates with colleagues across CCS to enhance the level of awareness of the DIBE Roadmap and its importance to achieving the CCS operating plan.
  • Develops data collection tools and processes to ensure accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Actively contributes to our culture of DIBE by ensuring that all staff feel represented and heard regardless of their gender, age, religion, ethnicity, and nationality or race.
  • Develops and implements key performance metrics to measure progress on equity-based outcomes and initiatives.
  • Works with staff, executives and consultants (as needed) on the implementation and continuous evolution of the DIBE roadmap. This is an organization-wide strategy which includes setting goals and outcomes to ensure the DIBE principles are incorporated into all CCS programs, practices and policies.
  • Supports HR in casting a wide net to attract a broad candidate pool that reflects Canada’s demographic diversity.
  • Deploys and promotes equity, justice, human rights, anti-racism and inclusion education for the organization.
  • Chairs and guides the organization’s employee DIBE Council. This includes updating the organization on its progress and ensuring that the council is an inclusive environment that creates a safe space for all employees.
  • Works closely with the CEO, Executive Leadership Team and HR to foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
  • Leads the organization in the development of an implementation plan to deliver against the DIBE roadmap. This will include actionable components such as training, policy reviews, program development, and staff engagement.
  • Plays an active role in all DIBE committees and employee resource groups within CCS
  • Works with HR to create a safe reporting system for complaints of racism and harassment.
  • Continuously models the CCS values to foster an engaging and inclusive and workplace culture.


Qualifications


  • Strong demonstrated experience of collaborative and inclusive behaviour and work within the organization
  • A track record of success in leading and implementing organization wide organizational effectiveness programs
  • The ability to think strategically and operationalize concepts turning ideas into action
  • Excellent communicator (verbal and written) with experience in areas that require high levels of cultural and political sensitivity
  • Experience coaching and guiding employees at all levels of an organization
  • Experience and comfort working cross functionally and working with multiple stakeholders
  • Education and/or experience working with or advancing the needs of underserved populations
  • Experience in not-for-profit environment, with experience in healthcare, cancer control, fundraising or advocacy considered an asset
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the management of a large scale, multi-divisional equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills and good knowledge of adult learning principles.
  • Experience in effective engagement at corporate, executive and governance levels of the organization
  • Bachelors or Master’s degree in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion or combination of relevant education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties of the job
