Remarkable journeys. Engaging people. Wild spaces.
Are you a team-oriented manager interested in putting your skills to work in the eco-tourism industry on the coast of BC? We’re inviting a uniquely skilled individual the opportunity to join the small business team who grew a tiny startup into one of Canada’s most respected expedition ship operators, rated “the Trip of a Lifetime” by National Geographic.
In this role you’ll have the opportunity to develop new skills and your career, trying new things you might not be able to in a larger company. We are always looking for people with innovative ideas who find or create new and better ways to achieve our mission. If being part of a dynamic community of explorers, planners, naturalists, and craftspeople who create trips that inspire wonder in guests, crew, media, and staff alike gets you excited to come to work, we want to hear from you.
In this senior leadership role you will lead a four-person team in the travel operations department to support our three ships on their ten-day eco-tours through the wild West coast. Key responsibilities for this role include:
- Recruitment, crewing and training – hiring, HR documentation, onboarding and training
- Trip operations management – shore-based support for crew and ship operations
- Planning and operations preparation – operational planning and supporting shipboard maintenance during the off-season
- Compliance – ensuring compliance with all government requirements, applications and permits, as well as agreements and certifications required to run tours
- Project management – systematically improving the company’s procedures
You are organized, and excel at analyzing existing structures and systems and making innovative suggestions for improvement. You have no trouble making decisions and communicate in a way that creates clarity and brings others on board. You define success as achieving the goals you set for yourself and delivering on the organization’s goals. You are motivated by a role with variety and flexibility but are also able to balance that freedom within the structures inherent in the industry.
Motivators
You like to balance the big picture while you execute your responsibilities with that vision. You value clear communication and establishing rapport with others, and enjoy working with different personalities. You believe you have a good balance between your ability to connect and tapping into your analytical side.
