The position is an associate position with the following areas of responsibility: Outside processing, Coke Ovens, Iron-making, Steel-making, Hot Strip Mill, Finishing, MS&U (Maintenance, Services and Utilities), and Commercial. This is a highly visible and challenging position working with all levels within the enterprise. We are looking for a highly-motivated self-starter who is extremely analytical and has excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate with multiple teams within the enterprise. The team will depend on the Accounting Associate to drive standardization and efficiencies in budgeting, forecasting, and analysis. Safety is the Core Value of Stelco and the individual will make Safety the #1 priority in the execution of all work activities, including monitoring contractor/vendor safety in support of work efforts.

This position reports to the Manager, Mill Accounting.

Job Responsibilities

Review and analyze production and consumption transactions

Analyze and reconcile assigned accounts in the General Ledger

Maintain inventory sub ledgers within ERP system

Receive services and material within ERP system

Prepare and post journals to the General Ledger

Prepare exhibits as required for various levels of management within the Finance and Operating divisions

Ensure adequate accounting controls are in place and maintained

Manage and perform annual, cycle, and spot inventories

Provide warehouse management support for operations

Verify and edit inventory and product tracking information

Track plant spending including freight costs

Perform various month-end closing responsibilities

Verify and approve vendor invoices

Analyze operating costs and forecast deviations for accounting management and operations

Prepare numerous statistical reports/packages

Adhere to accounting principles and internal control guidelines

Job Qualifications

Diploma in Accounting and Finance or a related degree

Proficiency in MS Excel

Job Skills and Knowledge

High attention to detail and the ability to work well in a team environment.

Strong communication, writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills and the ability to interact with all levels of management.

Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage timelines

Knowledge of Canadian accounting principles

Working conditions

Normal, fast-paced office environment for a high impact team

This position is onsite at Nanticoke, Ontario

A valid Ontario G or G2 Drivers license and vehicle is required
