Overview:
Paediatric Occupational Therapists are healthcare professionals who work with children and young people to help them develop the skills they need to participate in everyday activities. They assess, diagnose and treat physical, cognitive, sensory, and psychosocial impairments in order to help children reach their full potential. They work with children and their families to develop individualised treatment plans and provide interventions to help them reach their goals. Paediatric Occupational Therapists work in a variety of settings including hospitals, schools, clinics, and private practice.How To Become an Paediatric Occupational Therapist:
To become a Paediatric Occupational Therapist, you must first complete a bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy. After completing the degree, you must then pass the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) exam. Once you have passed the exam, you can then apply for a state license to practice as an Occupational Therapist. After obtaining a license, you can then specialize in Paediatric Occupational Therapy by completing additional coursework and/or clinical experience.Paediatric Occupational Therapist Skills:
• Knowledge of child development and physical, cognitive, sensory, and psychosocial impairments
• Ability to assess, diagnose, and treat physical, cognitive, sensory, and psychosocial impairments
• Ability to develop individualised treatment plans
• Ability to provide interventions to help children reach their goals
• Ability to work with children and their families
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations
• Knowledge of relevant technology and equipment
